My computer periodically installs Antivirus Gold without my knowledge or consent, even after I uninstall it. The wallpaper on my desktop is blue and says in white text, "A fatal error in IE has ocurred at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM<01> + 00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c *System can not function in normal mode. Please check you security settings. *Scan your PC with any available antivirus / spyware remover program to fix the problem." I can't change the wallpaper. Also, after the computer has been running for 10-15 minutes an icon appears in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. The icon is a black exclamation point inside a yellow triangle and it is flashing. I believe it is Msole32 but I'm not sure. Additionally, a small window pops up titled "System Warning." It has an icon of a red circle with a white X in the middle and says, "Network fatal error at 00FF:2348AD Warning! Your internet is not secured. Please, use network security software to protect your PC from remote attacks and hacks. Click 'OK' to get all the available 'Network Security' software." Finally, when I start up my computer, Popuper will run. When it does run it copies itself numerous times in the Control+Alt+delete Close Program menu making it impossible to start up the computer.

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 2 +++++

Update HiJackThis
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click Open the Misc Tools Section
  • Click Check for update online
+++++ Step 3 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.
