My computer has been infested with a virus that has shut down spysweeper, adaware, norton's, all symantec programs (including websites), system restore, window's media player, my speakers!! the list just keeps going... Tried downloading karperskie's (or something like that), but my system blocks virus definition updates also... aka- I'm screwed. ;)

Hi joeking1978

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first. Don't run yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop. We may need it later.

Please download SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeek...wnload2471.html Update the program then run it.

Download Ewido Trojan’s and malware remover http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Ewido will auto-udate. Don't run yet

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run Ewido full scan. Save the scan.log.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig45] MSConfig45.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MSConfig45] MSConfig45.exe
O4 - Global Startup: updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\updater\wupdater.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Run Ad-aware se let remove all it finds

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
MSConfig45.exe<--Delete this file
O4 - Global Startup: updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\updater<--Delete the whole folder
Exit Explorer.

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!: http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin. When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Please post the logs From Panda, Ewido and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

ok... did everything down to running adaware... adaware froze at about file #40118.

Then I tried to find msconfig45 and 04-global startup... and could not find them (if there is an easier way to locate, please direct me.)

I then went to reboot in normal mode... and when it does... my screen stays blue... I can only see the mouse cursor!! I think my computer may now be worse! What happened!?!?!?

I'd love to, but the panda virus scan won't work... I left it running since last night and it's still on the same screen and has shown no progress.

alright- I know I'm starting to be a complete pain in the butt... but kaspernski's won't run. I had it about 2 months ago and used the free trial version then. I went in and uninstalled that version and deleted all folders and what I thought were the original keys... but when I go to run the trial version- it keeps saying: the previous install is not complete, you must restart before proceeding.

So... I've restarted about 4 times, and it keeps saying that... now what!?!?

Hi joeking1978

Download the RKFiles.zip from here:
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
1. Reboot into safe mode
2. Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder
* Locate and double-click the RKFILES.BAT to run this tool.
* Sit back and wait untill its finished.
* When it is finally finished a text file will open.
* Save the contents of that text file.
Note: It should save by default to C:\Log.txt
3. Reboot back to Normal Mode.
4. Post the log

here it is... btw, I haven't been out of "safe mode" since your first instructions! I thought I had conveyed in my third post that my windows explorer will not load in normal startup. The first time, I only saw a blue screen and mouse cursor. The last try- I got my default wallpaper for Window's XP... and that's it. No icons, no start button... ect. The only way I can post is via "Safe Mode with Networking".

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\rkfiles

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.
