Hi all,

I had the Adware.Topantispyware (according to symantec.com), and I have followed the manual remove instructions including editing registry etc. The black desktop background ad "Warning your in danger" etc has gone, but my desktop has not reverted to normal. It it white, and after a few seconds reverts to beige then back again. I also had problems with pop-ups, webpage redirects, and a yelloe triangle with an exclamation mark in it flashing on my toolbar, but these seem to have been cleared up by following the instructions on your "You must read this first" page. Any help is greatly appreceiated - I have been tearing my haoir out for 2 weeks.

Hi curiosity and Welcome!

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - F:\WINDOWS\System32\hpC669.tmp (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {24311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab

O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab

O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab

O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34545} - F:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

Locate and Delete if found

c:\ex.cab<< File

c:\eied_s7.cab<< File

F:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll<< File

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Now open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save Report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>Close>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply

Well that looks better but a little bit more to go!

Go To Add\Remove Programs and Remove these if they exist

PSGuard
AdwareAlert

Locate and Delete the following

F:\Documents and Settings\BrianThomas\Favorites\Network Security.url<< File!

F:\Documents and Settings\BrianThomas\Application Data\PSGuard.com<< File!

F:\Documents and Settings\BrianThomas\Favorites\Network Security.url<< File!

F:\Documents and Settings\BrianThomas\Favorites\Spam Filters.url<< File!

F:\Documents and Settings\BrianThomas\Favorites\Web Detective.url<< File!

F:\Program Files\PSGuard<< Folder!

F:\Program Files\AdwareAlert<< Folder!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard] F:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] F:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\AdwareAlert.Exe -boot

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Have the PC Scanned here please
http://support.f-sec.../home/ols.shtml

Go ahead and Install these 2 for a bit of added Security for Browsing!

SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
Update Immediatly!

IE Spyad:
http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=53
There is a direct download inside and great tutorial also!

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log!
