I have several problems with this computer, the CD-ROM drives aren't accessible, my Norton Internet tells me when the computer is starting up certain files are missing. I cannot access certain websites using any web browsers, and also I can't use MSN Messenger.

I'm at the point where I'm about to wipe this whole 20 gig hard drive and start again.

Please HELP Me!~

Hi Zerock

You certainly do have some problems there. You might like to print out these instructions or copy and paste them into Notepad. You won't have this window open for parts of the fixes.

Make sure you can see hidden files http://www.xtra.co.n...16458,00.html#2 You can set this up now so it's ready when you need it.

Make sure you can boot into Safe Mode http://www.bleepingc...tutorial61.html

Note: Close Internet Explorer and Netscape and keep them closed while these programs are being uninstalled.

Open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Remove the following programs if they are listed. They may not all be listed.

180Solutions To uninstall 180 Search Assistant (You must be connected to the internet. Just keep pressing the uninstall button when it prompts - it will prompt a lot, keep pressing uninstall). Disconnect from the internet once 180 Solutions is uninstalled.

Altnet
My Web Search Bar
My Search Bar
Fun Web Products Easy Installer
P2P NETWORKING
Sidefind
Software Update Manager
Viewpoint Media Player
WSEM Update
Kazaa - if you have it installed
Kazaalite - if you have it installed

Open the HijackThis and click on Do System Scan Only. When the scan is complete check all the following items. Then disconnect from the internet and close all open windows including this browser window and all instant messaging - Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, ICQ and anything else that is not essential and click on the Fix checked button.

Virus warnings while performing a scan with Ad-Aware
While performing a scan with Ad-Aware, a background antivirus monitor may issue an alert, stating that a virus has been found in the temporary directory (%temp%) for the current user. This does not necessarily mean your computer has been infected with an active virus. Most antivirus resident scanners will not scan compressed files and only monitor your memory for the sign of an active viral process.

During a scan, Ad-Aware will temporarily decompress files to scan their contents without activating the content, but in doing so, the file is noticed by the antivirus' resident scanner.

Also, some antivirus applications include an option to quarantine infected files, and when Ad-Aware decompresses these quarantined files, the antivirus background scanner detects the virus moving outside the quarantine area. To avoid this you can either remove the quarantined files via your antivirus application, or have Ad-Aware ignore the antivirus program's quarantine folders/files during a scan.

Reboot after completion of the Adaware scan and do an on-line virus scan here http://www.pandasoft...com/activescan/ Make sure that Repair/fix and heuristics are checked. Let it fix everything it can. Save the report at the end of the scan. Reboot when the scan is complete. Do a fresh HijackThis log and paste it into this thread.
