Hello, everyone.

Everytime I boot up my computer, a mIRC chat client box opens up, connecting to some server that says profanity etc. But I never installed mIRC on this computer and when I go into Add/Remove Programs, it won't let me uninstall it, rather a blank window pops-up that says "Retry" or "Cancel.

It seems to be that it was created in c:\Windows\systemz folder. Also, it doesn't have the same icon or format as mIRC usually has, it is very weird.

Please help me in removing this trojan/software/program. The only visible difference is that the computer has been running slower than usual... I will post my HiJack This! Log in a few seconds.

Something else, Ad-aware keeps detecting Win32.Backdoor.Agobot... and I don't think I can remove it.

Hello excal,

I am still getting the mIRC pop-up type programs and cannot uninstall it.
Also, now some programs just automatically close after using them for about 10 seconds... ;)

Hi surge and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

can you please go to this site http://www.thespykil...x.php?board=1.0 and upload this file:

c:\windows\systemz\svchost.exe

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Hello Excal,

I followed all directions... and I noticed the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\svphostu.exe was created at the same time as svphost.exe, but I did not delete it.

After running ActiveScan, I noticed that it said it "Disinfected" that file so I think I'm fine. I also did not notice any mIRC windows, but I haven't used my programs, yet.

Active Scan log:

Incident Status Location

Virus:Trj/Dropper.KB Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\svshost32.exe
Virus:Bck/Ced.B Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\svphostu.exe

Why don't we check to verify that these are gone:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\svshost32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svphostu.exe

I pretty sure they are, but rather be safe then sorry.

and when you check, and they are gone:

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Included in those updates is Windows XP Service Pack 2. Click Here
Since you're junkware free, the time to get it is NOW. Service Pack 2 is a MAJOR upgrade for XP. It adds numerous security and software patches, as well as new features and functionality. You will also be adding another layer of protection against future threats.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.
