Hi I got Spy Sheriff on my computer while surfin the net and it has put a annoying blue and black (critical warning, etc) desktop that I can't change. I have done what was instructed to do before posting CleanUp, Ad-aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D. I also used Norton antivirus and Microsoft antispamware. The scroll bar is still locked for the desktop background. I have read some posts here and learned a lot about protecting yourself and plan to change from IE to foxfire and use programs like spywareblaster etc to help keep clean after I get rid of all the malware I have right now. Welcome to Geeks To Go... My name is Tom. Sorry for the delay in response as we have been very busy lately.

If you have already had your system fixed, please respond here and let us know. If not follow the instructions below.

First, download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Download, install, and update Ewido Security Suite

• Install ewido security suite
• Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
• The program will now go to the main screen

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.

• On the left hand side of the main screen click update
• Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
After the updates are installed, exit Ewido

Reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Once in Safe Mode, Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

After Cleanup! is finished:

• Run Ewido
• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan
• Let the program scan the machine

While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "clean", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

• Click Save report
• Save the report to your desktop
• Exit Ewido

Reboot into normal mode.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

SpySheriff

Exit Add or Remove Programs.

Delete the following, in bold, if found:

C:\Documents and Settings\user account\Start Menu\Programs\SpySheriff <-whole folder
C:\Documents and Settings\user account\Application Data\Install.dat
C:\Program Files\SpySheriff <-whole folder
C:\Windows\Desktop.html
C:\winstall.exe

*NOTE* user account is not the actual name of that folder. The name of that folder will be the name of your computer profile.

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

RIGHT-CLICK HERE and go to Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download the smitfraud reg to your desktop.

Double-click smitfraud.reg on your desktop. When asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES.

After the merged successfully prompt, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder:

C:\Windows\Prefetch

If there are any files inside the Prefetch folder, delete ALL of them. (Do NOT delete the folder. Just delete the files inside.)

Reboot your computer.

You should be able to change your desktop back to normal now.

Please download and follow these instructions for setting up and running Ad-Aware SE 1.06:
Ad-Aware SE Setup (if you already have Ad-Aware 1.06, please update to the latest definitions then set the program up per the instructions on the page).

OK lets get rid if those 015's now.

2.) Download: DelDomains.inf
Should the link above display the text instead of downloading the file, then copy & paste the text into notepad and save the file as DellDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download, install, and run CleanUp!

After all of the above Reboot post another HJT log.

I downloaded deldomains.inf. Every time I right clicked on it to install it, the folder it was in froze. I did ctrl-alt-del and it would say the folder was not responding. When I moved it to the desktop and tryed to install it the computer froze for awhile then a window popped up saying Dr Watson postmorton debugger failed send info to microsoft or not. Start HiJackThis and do a scan.

[*]Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

I still can't right click on things with out the computer freezing up and having to ctrl-atl-del out. Also I Searched for "watson" because I saw other people have had problems with that and it had popped up once on my computer and I found a folder named Dr Watson in C:Documents and settings\All users\Application Data\Microsoft. In the folder is drwtsn32 a text document. I don't know if this a problem or if it is supose to be there. More thanks for helping.

OK Lets try this

Click on Here and save the file to your desktop as infinstall.reg. Click on the file and when it asks you if you want to add to your registry click yes. Please let me know if this helps.

I installed infinstall.reg and was able to right click on deldomains and install it. Then I run clean up after like you said. Every thing looks to be running fine but I was wondering about the Dr Watson folder in C:Documents and settings\All users\Application Data\Microsoft with drwtsn32 a text document in it.
