Hello Telcon,

Welcome to Geeks to Go my name is Snickets and I will be helping you today!!

Yes I see that you have the Nail infection along with the SurfSidekick.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Lets deal with the Nail infection first and then we will move onto the hijack this log:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Please Post the Ewido Scan log on the next reply!!!!

Reboot Into Normal Mode

Download and install CleanUp! Here

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll

O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw3.cab
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.Reboot your computer into normal windows.

After the above is complete please do the following:

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Once in safe mode:

Please ensure that you have hidden files and folders in view mode and if you do not know how to do this go here and follow the instructions for your operating system.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Viewpoint - By any name
SurfSideKick

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\
C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\

Then please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

c:\windows\system32\znfrtqr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat12.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mqcertui.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

After that, Reboot.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and do not forget to post the Ewido scan log along with this and let us know how the system is running.

Thank you,

Snickets out

Thanks Snickets,

I performed the instructions provided, but I didnt see
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gshuyu] c:\windows\system32\znfrtqr.exe r
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
on that step. Everything else seemed to go good -- also after the CleanUp! was done it said it removed some of the original files and replaced them with something different(I think), is this normal? Anyways..

Hello Telcon,

Your log looks alot better although there is still something residing on the machine that is loading random name files onto the machine.

Lets do a couple of things to finish this off:

Run Ad-Aware with the latest update.
  • Download the latest version of Ad-Aware (Ad-Aware SE Build 1.05) from here.
  • If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
  • After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
  • Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
  • Once the definitions have been updated:
  • Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
    • Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
    • Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)[list]
    • "Automatically save logfile"
    • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
    • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
  • Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
  • Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
  • Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
  • Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
  • Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
  • Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
  • Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
  • Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
  • Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
  • Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
  • Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol and select the following:
    • "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
    • "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
    • "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
  • Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
    • "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
    • "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
    • "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
    • "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
  • Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
  • Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
  • Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
  • Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
[*]Close all programs except ad-aware.
[*]Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
[*]Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
[*]After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.

Please post the Adware scan log into this thread with your reply.

Download Process Explorer from here

Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.
Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...
In the explorer Window select the file: c:\windows\system32\cvjdqu.exe
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES
Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

c:\windows\system32\cvjdqu.exe

After the above is complete please do the following:

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Once in safe mode:

Then please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

c:\windows\system32\cvjdqu.exe

After that, Reboot.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how the system is running.

Thank you,

Snickets out
