Hi all,

Originally posted this in the wrong forum. Again, my apologies.
I browsed a couple of postings and tried to fix it on my own, but I think this PC may have other problems other than just AV Gold. Here is the hijack this file...

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first. Don't run yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop. We may need it later.

Download Ewido Trojan’s and malware remover http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Ewido will auto-udate. Don't run yet

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:
Workstation NetLogon Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I)
When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run Ewido full scan. Save the scan.log.

Run the spifix

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:

Run Ad-aware se let remove all it finds

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say yes

Run CW-Shredder - Hit the FIX button - let it run and fix what it finds.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Followed your instructions to a T...but was unclear about when I should be in safe mode or not. I figured I had to be in regular mode when deleting the files with HJT, so I was not in safe mode for any procedure after that.

It does appear the system is running a bit faster now, although AVG looks like it's still there.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

to clarify...do I remain in Safe Mode when deleting those 3 objects with HJT? Or do I go back to normal mode then? I ask since you asked for the original HJT file that was NOT in safe mode....

Thanks, I saw that... I'll stay in safe mode then. When it says offline, I'll unplug the network cable as well.

Hi sjoa

Use windows explorer delete the following file's/folder's.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\AntivirusGold 2.0.lnk

Now how is the system performing now, any problem's

Ok.....I had someone delete what you said...but system still is a bit funky.

When you boot up, the background wallpaper pic shows up briefly, with no icons on the screen...then it goes away, the icons come back, and the background screen turns off white....when the curser is moved around it, the background screen constantly changes to white....then back to off white

the system still lags as well....there's a delay when you attempt to do something by clicking on an icon/start menu. The home page is preserved however.....no more about:blank homepages....also, AVGold is not on the desktop or tray.

I think we're almost there, just a couple of little annoying things...

Try this

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.
Remove the check by "View my Active desktop as a web page".
Click OK then Apply and OK.
