Hi everyone, I have started at the recomended "Click Here" button, and what follows is just about everything that I have done so far.

I have downloaded, updated, and ran all of the following programs in safe mode:

WinsockXPFix for Windows XP, CleanUp, Ad-Aware se, CWShredder, SpyBot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spy, SpyWare Killer Pro, Yahoo Anti-Spy, Ewido Security Suite, and TDS-3.

WinsockXPFix has caused me some trouble, and I can't get anywhere online with Internet Explorer right now. All I am able to get are ERROR messages, one says that the page cannot be displayed, the otherr is in refference to the URL not being available?? So It looks like I kind of shot myself in the foot by running that one.

I had run CleanUp several days ago and had a similar experience with it. Man! It flushed away over a thousand different things, all in one big "Whoosh!" I wound up having to do a system restore to be able to get back online with Internet Explorer. I was lucky because my PC useually tells me that the restore did not work and to try again.

Ad-aware se, CWShredder, SpyBot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spy, Yahoo Anti-Spy, SpyWare Killer Pro, Ewido Security Suite, and TDS_3 all worked like they were suppose to, and got rid of loads of bad stuff.

I have also gotten a clean bill of health from Microsoft BaseLine Security, and from the Microsoft Malware scanner.

So why do all of my troubles persist? Whatever took root in my PC is awful [bleep] sneaky, and is doing a real good job of hiding out.

OH YEAH, By the way I went to the "Panda Activescan site that is recomended under the "Click Here" button.

Now here I have to squawk, and kind of loud too. I am kind of wondering "Has anyone here taken the time to go and do a VIRUS check on that site?"

As soon as I had started to do the scan my anti virus scanner started having a fit! This is what it told me >>

YOU HAVE A VIRUS!!

http://pandasoftware.com/ActiveScan/as5/mo...cab\imscan
MalWare Name: Win32Kuang2
Type: Virus/Worm
VPS version 0526-4,07/01/2005

Now as I run that same virus checker daily, I am kind of wondering if someone got to that site and messed with it. I tried three different times and got the same results each time.

When I tried to notify the virus people via their notifaction thing I wound up with a runaway browser. That thing just started popping out Pages and didn't stop for four or five minutes. It finally crashed and stopped.

I can post the results of the eventvwr.msc that I ran if it will help. Here is the hijackthis log that I ran:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hi wendy k. walker

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first. Don't run yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop. We may need it later.

Please download SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeek...wnload2471.html Update the program then run it.

Download Ewido Trojan’s and malware remover http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Ewido will auto-udate. Don't run yet

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run Ewido full scan. Save the scan.log.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Run Ad-aware se let remove all it finds

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!: http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin. When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Please download spyware-scan and save it to your desktop.
Please post the logs From Ewido and HijackThis We will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi thatman, Thanks for the fast response to my post. Before I get started following your advice I need to ask:

1.) Did you notice where I described the problems that I have had while following this routine? Two of the above steps have really kind of made extra trouble for me, however I am willing to follow your advice.

2.) Am I supposed to run all of the above programs in safe mode?

While I waite for your reply I will get busy, and clear off my desktop, and make sure that I have all of the programs that you have recommended installed and updated.

Thanks Wendy

OK, here I am again, "Whew" I think that I have done everything that you said to do. Internet Explorer is working on a hit and miss basis right now.

Sometimes I connect with no trouble, sometimes I get the page cannot be displayed thing, and at other times I get the URL error message.

Something keeps changing the setting in > tools> internet options > connections > LAN settings right here somthing keeps putting a check in the "Use Proxy Server" box, and I am not supposed to have one there.

Here are the two logs that you requested>>

Hi wendy k. walker

OH YEAH, By the way I went to the "Panda Activescan site that is recomended under the "Click Here" button.
Now here I have to squawk, and kind of loud too. I am kind of wondering "Has anyone here taken the time to go and do a VIRUS check on that site?"
http://pandasoftware.com/ActiveScan/as5/mo...cab\imscan
MalWare Name: Win32Kuang2
Type: Virus/Worm
VPS version 0526-4,07/01/2005

It seems that Pavdll.dll is marked by several other AV's, and also a known false alarm.

Now here I have to squawk, please do but squawk at Avast for not sorting this out. Thank You

C:\Program Files\BellSouth\Connection Tool\IPClient.exe
Installed with Verizon DSL accounts. IP Insight is a Quality of Service monitor and diagnostic tool that isn't required - see here for more information. This one constantly "phones home" and wastes resource - hence the "X" status

Use add remove programs uninstall the following.
C:\Program Files\Cosmi\SpyWare Killer Pro\shield\SDShield.exe

SpyWare Killer Pro The company that make this have been suspended from trading

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = localhost:9095
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi thatman! First I have to say that I was not fussing at anyone on here about panda making my AV scanner sing, I was simply wondering if something might have happened to their site.

Now, as I have scoured the internet, and read up on the problem a little more, I know that I was just jetting a false positive on that site.

I will go ahead and get that scan done, if my AV scanner will shut up long enough for me to do it.

>> C:\Program Files\BellSouth\Connection Tool\IPClient.exe
Installed with Verizon DSL accounts. IP Insight is a Quality of Service monitor and diagnostic tool that isn't required - see here for more information <<

Sorry but the "see here for more information" thing didn't work, however, I have scrounged up some info on that one also.

I have never had Verizon wireless, and that little bugger has just recently started poping up. I have been leaving it alone because I have just recently gotten DSL from bellsouth and thought it might be connected to them, as It appears to be.

So, if it is safe to kill it, how do I do that?

Next you said :

>> Use add remove programs uninstall the following.
C:\Program Files\Cosmi\SpyWare Killer Pro\shield\SDShield.exe

SpyWare Killer Pro The company that make this have been suspended from trading <<

Something is sounding wrong here. I almost went blind reading all of the fine print at spywarewarrior. They said, and posted the court documents, that "SPYKILLER" was the bad guy, and that the feds have nabbed all but $165,00.00 dollars of their IGG's. They only let them have that much money so that they could pay their Federal Taxes, wasn't that nice of our uncle?

Here is an update from spywarewarrior on the product "SpyWare Killer Pro"

>> Note on SpyWare Killer: SpyWare Killer (1, 2) and SpyWare Killer Pro (1) -- originally from Cosmi, but re-branded for Anonymizer.com -- were were listed on these pages because of inadequate info on the home pages (1, 2) for those applications and the fact that no trial version available. Earlier versions also used an out-of-date reference database. In recent months Cosmi and Anonymizer.com have added information to their web pages about the application and made a trial version available (from Anonymizer.com). Moreover, the application now appears to use a more recent definitions database. Thus, we can no longer classify SpyWare Killer as "rogue/suspect anti-spyware."
[A: 6-26-04 / U: 11-17-04] <<

So, in light of those two things, do you still feel that I should go ahead and remove
C:\Program Files\Cosmi\SpyWare Killer Pro\shield\SDShield.exe?

I was just wondering about that, seeing as they now have a clean bill of health, and due to the fact that their earlier problems were really kind of minor. Let me know one way or the other, OK?

I also need to ask, when I do the HiJackThis Fix thing, should I be doing it while in safe mode, or in standard windows, or does that matter?

Thanks Wendy

Hi wendy k. walker

You can boot into safe mode with the HJT items.

C:\Program Files\Cosmi\SpyWare Killer Pro\shield\SDShield.exe

That is for you to deside only time will tell if the program is improved.

Post the panda.log with a Hjack.log

Hi wendy k. walker

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
C:\WINDOWS\GatorPdpLoudInstaller.log
Let the system reboot.

Post a HJT.log scanned in normal mode

Hi wendy k. walker

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN ;)

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here
QUOTE
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox.
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.
http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp Windows (Offline Installation)

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats.

Have a nice Day.

Hi thatman, It seems that the computer Gnome's seem to be against me writing a good reply here as I have done so three times so far and lost them all.

So Thanks for your help. I am up to date with almost everything that you mentioned, however I do need help to find the "Defrag" utility, would you please point me to it?

Thanks Wendy
