When I go in Control panel to Add or Remove programs, it still lists A Better Internet - the original source of this junk. Are you sure I can safely hook back up to the internet??? How do we specifically remove ABI??

BTW - I have deleted cfgmgr52.dll before, so i know it's not something important - just trying to get it to STAY gone.

Yes do not try uninstalling it though as it only sends out infomation about your PC. To remove the entry open Hijackthis click open the misc tools section > open uninstall manager find A Better Internet and delete the entry.

Okay - that seems to have worked - ABI no longer shows up in the control pabnel Add or Remove list.
So - should I upload cfgmgr52.dll or just try deleting it?

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

Looks clean but lets make sure of something since Norton came up before saying it found vx2 (Look2me)

Download L2mfix from

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Norton didn't find it, Ad-aware did. We ran L2Mfix before, but I will do it again.
Question though - I see two versions of rundll32.exe -

Could the second one, with the capital D, be a trojan?

And what about:
C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
ProcessLibrary.com labels this as a worm or Trojan - ??
