Hello. First time using this type of forum. Looking for help removing W32.Desktophijack and Trojan.Deskyophijack.B

They have been found by Norton in C:\windows\systen32\wininet.dll and C:\windows\system32\oleadm.dll

My default Homepage as also been replaced by a site I don't want and every time I start up my computer I get an html screen covering my desktop. I think this is linked to Antivirus-Gold, which may be an additional problem.

I have tried to fix problem with Norton, which identifies the issues but is unable to fix them.

I have also run the following as recommended by the site:

your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of ewido security suite.Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will prompt you to update click the OK button

The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido for now.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Post me the contents of the smitfiles.txt log as you post back.

Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Couple of quick problems.

SmitRem Doesn't appear to download correctly. When I tried to extract I got a message saying not items to extract. When I tried to open the file I got a message saying that the file has an error or is corrupted. What do you suggest?

Also, when in safe mode my mouse is disabled. I know some shortcut key strokes but not alot of them. How do I tick the boxes in HiJackThis without using my mouse.

Follow these instructions to backup the Registry.

Download and install Registrar Lite.

Let's go search the Registry for those registry leftovers.
Please be very carefull what you do. A corrupt Registry is a broken down machine.

Doubleclick the file you just downloaded.
An Installshield will appear. Follow the instructions.

Go to start - programs - RegistrarLite - Registrar Lite
Since it's the first time you open it, the program will finish the installation.

Press the magnifying glass
In the box 'text to search for' paste the purple text
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\ACTIVEX COMPATIBILITY\{53F066F0-A4C0-4F46-83EB-2DFD03F938CF}
press 'enter'. The program will search the Registry looking for this item.

When it's done searching select the row in the right pane.
Press the red X to delete.

Do the same for this one:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{357A87ED-3E5D-437D-B334-DEB7EB4982A3}

Then close Registrar Lite.

I have a problem backing up my Registry.

I have tried to follow the instructions for backing up my registry, however I fall at the first hurdle. The instructions say to use the Back Up utility under my System tools. Unfortunatley I don't have anything called 'Back Up'.

Is there another way of finding this tool or another way of backing up the registry?
