Okay, I followed all of the instructions to do before posting a log, and not only am I still getting popups, but I keep getting redirected! I downloaded the newer version of HijackThis! from the post that I'm automatically redirected to, and even then, I keep getting redirected when I post the new log. Can someone help me out with this? First Off I need for you to download this File and extract it to its own folder such (c:\program files\HijackThis)

please download this file and install but do not run yet we will do that later.

please download this file and save it to your desktop to use later


Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please start Hijackthis and make sure all other windows and programs are closed. With HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Hello! Thanks for the quick response! There are two issues that my computer is creating: 1) it won't bring up the very first link that you gave me to download. It goes to some random page with a bunch of search option. 2) I followed the instructions to boot in Safe Mode (I have XP, so I rebooted and held down the F8 key during the restart) and it refuses to cooperate! There is no option for Safe mode when the startup menu appears, just the normal login names.

But I did manage to get the other two files (cleanup and fixmydoom) downloaded!

So what do I do next? I didn't want to run the rest of your suggestions if I couldn't get it in safe mode

ok the first file i was having you download was hijackthis.zip. what i need for you to do is the copy that you have is to extract it to its own folder such as c:\hjt\

the reason for this is that it can NOT save backups in a temp folder.

next when your computer goes to startup don't HOLD down the f8 key but keep TAPPING the f8 key as it is starting.

once in safe mode go ahead and do the directions i have already posted.

I'm still getting popups just about every time I click something which is annoying but not as annoying as someone getting hold of my credit card info in the last couple of days. Is there something in that log that shows how the scum did it? (sorry, totally NOT blaming you, just a bit of a rant!)

Please scan your system with Ad-aware:
Ad-aware SE - Download - Home Page

• If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
• After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
• Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
• Once the definitions have been updated:
• Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
  • Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
  • Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
    • "Automatically save logfile"
    • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
    • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
  • Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
  • Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
  • Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
  • Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
  • Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
  • Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
  • Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
  • Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
  • Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
  • Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
  • Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol and select the following:
    • "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
    • "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
    • "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
  • Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
    • "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
    • "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
    • "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
    • "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
  • Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
  • Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
  • Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
  • Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
• Close all programs except ad-aware.
• Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
• Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
• After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.

Please download This file.

Install Spybot . Start Spybot and select Update, Search For Updates, check the box next to each update and then select Download Updates. Next, select Search and Destroy, Check for problems and after scanning is complete, Fix selected problems. Finally, select Immunize and then the Immunize button to block common Spyware programs from installing.


run Cleanup and reboot your system

run hjt and post a new log.

extract hijackthis from its zipped folder and place it in its own folder and run again and paste a new log from the new location of hjt.

Yes, popups galore still! And I'm not sure if this has anything to do with what's in my hijack log, but my flash and shockwave both quit working and are refusing to download from the macromedia site!

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please start Hijackthis and make sure all other windows and programs are closed. With HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vfeohcp] c:\windows\system32\vfeohcp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinFixer 2005] C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005\wfx5.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

click on start / control panel / add remove programs and remove the follow program if present

WinFixer 2005


Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vfeohcp.exe
C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005\


Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

Heidi ho! Okay, I did everything you said, and a couple of things that confused me: 1) After I cleared out the HijackThis files in Safe mode, the computer started shutting itself down and wouldn't stay on long enough to run Cleanup so I had to do that in normal mode. 2) when I ran the scanner on TrendMicro, it wouldn't let me copy the results! So I just cleaned the infections and now it says it's fine.

Hey Greg! The pop ups have vacated the premises! YAAAAY! And the system does not shut itself down in normal mode, it only did that in safe mode so problems solved!!!!!! Here is my newest log:
