I always consider formatting and starting over a very last resort. But that's easy for me to say from here, so I'll respect whatever you want to do. I do think that we can get you fixed up without formatting.

Assuming that you want to continue the fight, reboot into Safe mode and see if you can get Hijackthis to work. If so, post a new log.

Also let's check your security settings with IE. Open up Internet Explorer and click on Tools -> Internet Options. Select the Security tab and hilight Internet. Then adjust the slider to Medium.
