Hi all, I have a spy sheriff problem similar to many people that have posted here. I have looked at other peoles logs to see if I can solve the problem, but I seam to have loads more entries on the log file, this is odd because this machine had a fresh install about a week ago. Here is the log file hope someone can help me soon.
Cheers Gary

Hi Gary,

You might have installed Windows but you forgot to give protection to your PC.

Please download and install the following items -

AVG Anti-Virus --- freeware

Sygate Personal Firewall,

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs.
SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources.
SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation and browser hijack attempts. Both have free ongoing updates.

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

smitRem.zip
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

DelDomains.inf
Hoster.zip
Unzip Hoster and save the save the files in the same folder.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
vr_sys.dll

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!

Right Click on DelDomains.inf and click on Install.

Double click on Hoster.exe and click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.
