Aurora just won't die. On a side note, I also had/have(?) a major Trojan
problem.

I went through the steps of "you must read this before posting a HijackThis log".
Ran Cleanup!, AD-Aware, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido, and TDS-3.
AD-Aware picked up DrPmod.exe, but could not delete it right away or after my computer restarted. (i.e. its still there)
After a restart, Ewido picked up and deleted nail.exe.

Now, when I start my computer I get an error message saying that a certain memory space could not be written (This concerns me). And a second saying that "nail.exe could not be found" (well, obviously, I deleted it). The only good thing is that the Aurora pop-ups have stopped (at least, temporarily).

Considering DrPmod is still on my computer, I doubt that Aurora is anywhere near killed. Help would be greatly appreciated (and given freshly baked cookies, if you so desire).

Here's my HijackThis log:

Hi Lizzy and welcome, Aside from Nail you still have a worm running on your system, Lets see if we can get Nail removed and then we will go back and see whats left over,

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the services called:

System Startup Service

or

SvcProc

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Next,
Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Ran into a problem - the link for Nailfix isn't working.
NoIdea says "No Such file exists."

Thank you so much,

Alright, think I got all that. Just randomly, my computer seems to be a whole lot slower -- but that's probably more related to the fact that I'm sitting in an 80 degree room.

We still have a few things left to clean,

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop
(We will use that later on )

Please make sure Ewido is updated,
(We will use that again later)
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Services] scmsg.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Windows Services] scmsg.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

    Go to Killbox
Double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    c:\windows\system32\eipkiwy.exe
    scmsg.exe

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

  • Run Ewido again please, Save the log again
Post back a fresh HijackThis log, Ewido log and we will take another look.

(By the way, what kind of cookies would you like?)

I love cookies but they don't look good on me :tazz:

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

Running good. Though, I'm still getting an error message when I hit the logon screen saying that a memory space could not be written. Any idea what's causing that?

Thank you very much.
I'm infintely grateful and sending you good vibes of happiness.
