hi there,
i somehow got a virus/trojan or whatever it is that the hundreds of dollars worth of antivirus programs i bought can't remove (mcaffee, adaware, etc.). so after searching the web i found you guys and hijack this. i think what you guys do on here is totally great and is probably a life saver of sorts... kudos to all the volunteers!!

my problem started a few weeks ago and the first thing that happened was this message that kept popping up on me that said something about a fatal error caused by trojan-syp.html.smitfraud....system cannot function in normal mode....scan your pc with available antivirus removers.... then i noticed an icon on my desktop called PSGuard, and for some stupid reason i actually clicked on it and bought the program it advertised not thinking it was related .... so now msn messenger opens up when i boot up (eventhough i was sure i deleted the program months and months ago??)....also hoping that no personal info have been stolen since i shop online fairly frequently?

so now i think i have a few virus' that mcaffee can't delete or quarantine: oleadm, and wininet.dll ... i think both are within the windows32 directory.

i also ran the hijack this program and am attaching the log file here.

would really appreciate some knowledgeable help

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:

• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
• When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

hi sam,
i appreciate your help. so i think i did everything you asked me to do correctly but just one quick question b4 i post the log files...is my desktop screen supposed to be blue after running one of the programs (it hasn't changed back to my original desktop wallpaper??) and now when i open the internet it opens to about.blank??not sure if i'm still in some type of a safe mode??

Enter your control panel and double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

as for the directions from before.... all were done, none of the files you mentioned to look for were found except for when i searched for IPT.exe i got 2 entries for CScript and 2 for WScript (each file found in both the I386 and Windows System 32 folders)...so when i tried deleting them i got a popup telling me s/th about windows instability so i undid the deletions ????

other than that all problems still the same

When you say that all problems are the same, are you talking about just your desktop, or do you still have your original problems? Please clarify for me.

When you go to Desktop properties, do you have a Desktop tab?
