I can't get rid of this trojan. Please Help. I have consistently deleted the registry keys that it adds, removed "Internet Update" which is affiliated with the trojan and deleted as many related files as I could find, but it comes back every time. The following is my Hijack This Scanlog:

Lets get this show on the road..

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

You have a nasty CoolWebSearch infection. First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY HERE
Download CWShredder Here.
Download SpSeHjfix Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

ewido

Set PC to show hidden files (click link if you do not know how)LINK

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Unzip SpSeHjfix to its own folder (ie c:\SpSeHjfix)

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run SpSeHjfix. A log will be saved in the same folder that you put the exe into. Please post the results of that log in your next reply.

Warning Note: On a few occasions it has been reported that after using the SPSEHjfix you cannot open Internet Explorer. To fix this, go into Control Panel >Internet Options >Programs & press reset web settings, then you can set your home page to what you want on the general tab.

Now run Ewido. click on the full system scan button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book as this may take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they are there. Some may have been removed by earlier procedures.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://websearchnetwork.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldoed.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldoed.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.yahoo.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: ZToolbar Activator Class - {da7ff3f8-08be-4cac-bc00-94d91c6ae7f4} - C:\WINDOWS\pumba3.dll
O2 - BHO: Class - {EC3AD07F-3DBE-C7B3-AD29-010A94FC8B05} - blank (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: Search Toolbar - {a19ef336-01d4-48e6-926a-fe7e1c747aed} - C:\WINDOWS\pumba3.dll
O4 - Global Startup: GStartup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\GMT.exe

O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

now using windows explorer locate the following files/folders and delete them if found

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldoed.dll/sp.html#55135
C:\WINDOWS\pumba3.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\GMT.exe
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm

Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan and post back

Carry out another HJT scan and post the logs back here, so we can sort out any remnants

****, Major PROBLEM :tazz:

EXPLORER CRASHES EVERY TEN SECONDS AND RESTARTS:
"Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the invonenience."

Options: "click here" for more information about this error" or "Close." I would have posted the "click here", but explorer doesn't work long enough for me to navigate to the temporary error txt file, and I can't copy the text in the error message.

It's back, I knew that was too easy and now my computer is really ****ed up. I can maneuver around it everytime explorer starts and open programs and keep them open ( like the internet for example) if I ignore the error window (but explorer still freezes). I ran virus scan and the infected files are all back. Here is the list of infected files found with McAfee Virus Scan:

*Avr[1].exe ... infected /deleted
*oleadm.dll ... infected / spy trojan / unable to clean, unable to delete
wininet.dll ... infected / /Win32Alemod.cunable to clean, unable to delete

*Killbox doesn't delete these files. Plus, there must be a program respawning these files becuase before hand I had deleted them multiple times.

I have deleted the modifications to the registry multiple times as well, but they keep coming back. Could I disable the virus temporarily by cleaning my registry again?

For information on Win32.Alemod.c visit: http://www3.ca.com/s...s.aspx?id=43295

McAfee Virus Scan doesn't remove: oleadm.dll, but it used to, but it always came back. I ran Active Scan on the System 32 folder where remaining infected files, oleadm.dll and wininet.dll, are located and it found no viruses. (not good)

I will complete the steps you gave to me in your last post, while I wait for a reply. Please help me get rid of this for good. Why is it affecting explorer.exe? From what I understand this is not supposed to be a malicious virus.

I wanna throw up---While running in safe mode, explorer still crashes every ten seconds like it does in normal mode. BAD!!!!!

WHat dO yoU nEEd Me To dO?

I managed to fix my registry and enable desktop control on my own.

Thank You so much for your help. I am now running the more secure Mozilla browser and I purchased the ewido software. There is only one problem now, my fully licensed Ewido software only scans for as long as it takes to find the first 10 bad files or registry keys and after that it terminates... I have contacted Ewido support.

I will definitely be making a donation to this website, Thanks a ton :tazz:

And please let me know about remnants if any.

Do you mean you have deleted the entries found by Panda Active?
