Outlook express has error msg "cannot open folder" re inbox. Won't send or receive. Rebooting makes everything ok - for a while.

If I get other error messages MSINn caused IPF in Directdb.dll. Microsoft says prob in db & to work on messages.ods but I don't have that.

SUSPECT a conflict with winfax because: printing to winfax engine form word, excell or corel, sometimes results in an error like MSGSRV32 failure in GDI & clicking that gives winword error in GDI.

Also get wfxctl (winfaxcontrol?) error sometimes.

When rebooting, winfax rebuilds it's phone directories.

ran hackthis when outlook working & when not. No diff in logs except for 2 microsoft files extra when not working - pstores.exe & ddhelp.exe

Hi lofab and welcome to geekstogo.

Appreciate that you've looked into this to help yourself. <_<
The two files you mention:
pstores.exe is legit. & so is ddhelp.exe

pstores.exe info
ddhelp.exe info

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Log looks good <_<
Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Web assistant - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - (no file)

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :D

Regarding the conflict with outlook express and winfax it's possible but i'm not sure. I'd need to find out more before giving advice on that, but i am sure somebody who knows more / has winfax / errors may well know a quick fix or solution.
I'll see what i can dig up.

Thanks for last info. Seemed better but just crapped out again with error mmsin in directdb. This is the error that microsoft says needs to find the .ods file of which I have none.

After this scan I restarted Outlook & am got unknown error for "send/receive" and "cannot open folder" for looking at inbox. Other boxes OK.
