I have an ongoing problem with settings which is irritating. If I click 'My Documents', the icons will come up in a half-size window. I would maximise the window, set the icons as (say) Thumbnails then 'refresh' to lock in the settings. When next I click on 'My Documents' it would appear in a half-size window again. This happens with many of the windows and no matter what I try, the settings will not lock in. In the Settings window, in 'Internet Options', my Home Page setting does not lock either.

I may possibly have a virus but, if so, I simply can't find it - despite using two different virus detection programs.

Is this a software problem?

Open Control Panel->Folder Options.
In the Folder Options Window. Click the View tab.
Click the Reset All Folder button.

If this doesnt work, tell me; I have a registry tweak also

Thank you for that. I appreciate your reply

I had received a solution from another source, as follows:-

1. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
2. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
3. Type NoSimpleNetIDList, and then press ENTER.
4. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5. Type 1, and then click OK.

That seemed to have solved 90% of the problem. Almost all of the windows were stable, the exceptions being self -created folders on the Desktop.

I then used the advice you gave me - and I'm back to square one! In addition, clicking on the Internet Explorer icon does nothing now - I access the Internet by clicking on an entery in my Favourites folder.

What now? do I delete the Registry entry and start again?

The Registry Tweak u gave is for when ur Refresh function (i.e. Right Click ->Refresh) does'nt work.
As for ur other problem, first run a virus and spyware scan to check if ur infected and it is the malware thats causing the problem.
