Your log appears to be malware free. I could get picky with trying to get you to find uninfected files just to make a pretty log but all I would accomplish would be to get you frustrated. If you have no more malware-related problems that you are aware of, just give me the OK and we can start the final but essential cleanup procedures.

Hoooray! Thank you so much. I am so happy to have finally gotten rid of that stuff. It was so annoying.

I don't seem to be having any more problems, so let's go for the cleanup.

Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
2. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
3. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
4. Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1.Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
2.Click on "Apply"

2. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

3. Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)

Regards,

Trevuren

There are no signs of LOP in your log

1. Manually DELETE the following files/folders:

c:\docume~1\robini~1\locals~1\temp\mqztxdgn.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\usercoolsoftwarelogo<===Folder and content
C:\Documents and Settings\Robin Iten Porter\Application Data\readme warn face<===Folder and content
C:\Documents and Settings\Robin Iten Porter\Local Settings\Temp\mqztxdgn.exe

2. Reboot system

Are you saying that you are seeing signs of LOP again?

If so, is there a site that you are returnng to on a regular basis thay may be contributing to the reinfection?

If you are not joking, please do as follows:

First we will try and find some of the elements of the infection. If they are present, I will provide the necessary directions to remove them in the next post.
  • Open notepad
  • Copy and paste the text contained in the Code box into the new Notepad file:

    dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
    notepad files.txt
  • Save this as findjobs.bat , choose to save it as *all files and place it on your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on op findjobs.bat and post the content of the textfile you get in your next reply.

I was experiencing symptoms of LOP again after I thought it was all clean. I had the same LOP toolbar back on IE, and the same old LOP icons on my desktop (casino, antivirus update, etc.). I was noting in my last post that it does now seem to be gone. No more symptoms. I was just posting a fresh log to make sure it was gone, because I didn't know how I got reinfected. From my initial research, it seemed that I originally got it when my husband installed messenger plus on our computer and we DEFINITELY have not done that again!

Here's a summary of the steps I've taken over the weekend and today to make sure I'm as clean and well protected as possible.

CleanUp!: ran and rebooted

Ad-aware SE: updated, found nothing

CWShredder: found nothing

Spybot S&D: updated and ran ... 2 problems found (security risks, removed) and updated immunizations

Soooo, if this all looks good to you and I'm not experiencing any more symptoms of LOP, then I guess we can consider this topic resolved for good!

Thank you so much for all of your help. It has been such a learning experience.

BUT I DO see signs of LOP.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://gokozhefngevw...dxT32psG0O.html

I think it is just your start page that is stuck.

1. In Internet Explorer, go to your Toolbar

2. Click Tools>>Internet Options

3. Change your home page to what you want it to be.

4. Click Apply

5. EXIT IE

6. REBOOT

7. POST a new HJT log please
