Well, I had a few minutes at lunch to try FileZilla. I really need to take the time to read thru the how-to, etc, but I did try to upload index.html, and here's what happened:
the file did transfer--that is, it's now listed under the the "Remote Site" directory, along with all the other files. However, the file size--which should be "3KB" according to my directory shows "???" in the Remote Site directory, and the date has "???" as well.
Also, at the bottom, where it shows files transferred, under "Status," it says "critical transfer error."
So I need to do a little 'vestigating here, but I thought I'd post this now, in case anything about this jumped out at you.
Thanks!

Umm..couple questions
(1) is there a "www" folder?
(2) is there a "cgi-bin" folder?
If the first one or both of those are no, than can you attach the file so I can see if its the file's problem?
If there is a "www" (and there may be a "cgi-bin") folder, make sure you are uploading the files IN that folder. If you are, than same thing, could you send me the file in a PM, e-mail, or just attach it in a post.

Ummm...OK. I'm an idiot. Should've contacted my ISP first thing. Turns out I exceeded my bandwidth and they just compressed all the files into an index.
Well, it's an honest mistake. This wasn't an issue at all until I updated/uploaded my index.html file, and that wasn't any bigger than it had been.
Oh, well! Thanks again SO MUCH for your help.

First of all, the file is a lot less kb than the pics she has on there, second..we've discussed where the index should be, and putting it in a different directory wouldnt prevent it from uploading, third, yes that is what happened, and thats what were trying to do here, upload an index.html file, but were trouble shooting some problems...
Some sites may only let you put up a 20kb HTML but you can upload a 100kb JPEG.
