System will not recognize cd rom or writer

I'm having trouble with my Dell computer recognizing my cd rom and cd writer. It also will not recognize my dvd drive. I uninstalled the cd rom, re-booted and windows found new hardware. It said it installed sucessfully but I still can't make it work. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. This is a possible fix. Be sure to follow the cautions stated by microsoft and back up your registry before doing this.
