Makai I'm not sure this will work but going to give it a try. Here's what I have...okay that's not going to work, was trying to do a screen shot for you I have...
16 colors
high bit 16 colors
true color 24 bit
true color 32 bit
256 color
No matter which one I try, everything is grainy and when I surf around the colors that use to be are all different now. I have tried and tried to get it back to normal! It's like it's stuck or something.

Also, open Display properties, Settings tab, Advanced button on the lower right. This should bring you to the Advanced settings tabs for your vid card. Try to set all settings to default. Go through each tab.

Also, if there is a color management tab, please note if there is an entry in the "color profiles associated with this device" window. I'm hoping you have this window, but I'm not sure what kind of tabs are displayed for your vid card. Please note the entries, if any, and post them here.

I'll try to think of more things for you to try, but it's close to midnight here and I need to get to bed.

Makai, I'm in California too! Ok, I had already tried the default with all but that didn't do anything. I do have color management, here's what's in it.

current monitor HWP D5259A
Default monitor profile <none>

Then where it says...

Color profile currently associated with this device

nothing is there! It's blank!

I hope this helps you solve my problem, because I sure don't know what it means! I'm hoping someone replys to my Hijack this log, they haven't so far and you told me I had a lot of nasty little things in there and now you got me really worried! LOL! Going to bed to, maybe in the morning there will be a reply on the Hijack.

I'm still thinking about your problem, but it's difficult to find the answer without really looking at your machine.

Perhaps it's a hardware problem.

Have you tried reseating you video card yet?

How about disconnecting and reconnecting the video cable. Disconnect/reconnect on the computer side AND the monitor side.

The fact that you do not have any "Color profile currently associated with this device" doesn't really mean anything. I just wanted to make sure you "didn't" have anything there.

As for your hijackthis log, it says you have a BHO (browser helper object) installed by Netjumper.com. Try not to worry too much as it's a pop-up ad server and is not as serious as a securtiy risk... but it must be taken care of soon.

Due to the protocol of this website, I am not allowed to help you with spyware... it must be handled by the malware group. Bump your thread there if you do not get a reply soon.

Anyways try reseating your vid card and dis/re-connecting your vid cable... both ends.

By the way... where in Ca are you located?

Gee, I thought you went to bed! What a surprise to see your email! Can't sleep either! I would reseat the vid card if I knew what that meant! LOL! I can unplug and re-plug things back in, I'll try that in the morning. I live in California City, that's about 2 hours away from Los Angeles, if you know where Lancaster is about 45 minutes from there. Where are you at?

To reseat the vid card, you first have to shut down your computer and monitor.

Disconnect the AC power cord from the computer.

Next remove the video cable from the vid card.

Open the computer case, and ground yourself by touching bare metal somewhere on the case.... (to discharge any static electricity you have built up on you).

You should see a philip screw holding the vid card to the computer chassis. Remove the screw and GENTLY pull the vid card out of the motherboard connector.

I do not know what kind of card you have, or what it looks like in your case. While it may take a little bit of effort to remove the vid card, DO NOT force anything.

Once you have the vid card out, just reinstall it by carefully aligning the vid card connector to the motherboard connector and reseating the card. Again, use only GENTLE force. You will know when the card is seated properly.

Once it's in, reinstall the philip screw, and put the computer back together, connecting the vid cable, and AC plug.

Let me know if you have any questions before proceeding, ok.

By the way, I live in Orange County. And... it's been over 8 hrs since you posted in the malware forum... go ahead and bump the post.

Gee Makai, I don't know if I can do that, it sounds a little bit above and beyond for me to do. The best I've been able to do is blow the dust out and even that makes me nervous! I would take it in and have it done but I am through spending money on the caveman computer and hoping to get a new one soon.

Someone told me that when I get a new computer that I can take the hard drive out of the old computer and take in to a repair shop and that they can transfer all my stuff onto the new computer, is that so? Also if I did something like that would all the problems I have on this computer be transferred to the new computer?

This is what I have, I have CD-RW and CD-R's, which I use for burning music. Which should I use? Then I just pop one into the CD burner and then what???? I can never find anything that says to back-up what I want to. Then also is it okay to just leave the CD in the burner and go to something else and back-up that or do I have to put a new CD in for each thing I back up? See I told you I was a computer dummy!

This morning some of the colors are looking better but I can still see all the little dots in the colors. Instead of the colors looking solid they look dotty! Sure have appreciated all the help you've been giving me but as far as reseating I think I will try to find someone who will be willing to come over and do that one for me! Too much of a wuss for that one!!!

YOO HOO! Makai I got the colors fixed!!! Don't ask me how, I just did! It's suppose to be on 32 bit and I had it on 256 colors. But when I had tried each and every one of the colors it still wasn't right, even the 32 bit. Well whatever you did it must of fixed it, so thank you so very much.

Will wait for you to answer my other questions. Bumped my Hijack post up this morning and still no one is responding. Maybe I made someone mad! Anyway will keep waiting. Thanks Makai, I really appreciated all the time you spent on my problem.

Yes, you can transfer your "stuff". However, "stuff" means data files. Files like word documents, pictures, videos, or any other "stuff" you feel is important to you. You CANNOT transfer the programs you are using... they have to be reinstalled, and you have to have the software available to install them. Would your problems transfer also??? It depends on whether or not your files are infected with a virus or spyware. The video/monitor problems you are expiencing now on this computer, will not transfer.

What CD burning program are you using? EasyCD Creator, DirectCD, Nero???
Most CD burning programs are simply drag and drop. Which means you just drag your files from their location and drop them into the burning program. You need to read your burning documentation about this. Also, I would recommend you DO NOT use DirectCD if possible. DirectCD is known to corrupt files and the program itself encrypts the disk so only DirectCD can open the disk. I have seen some XP machines open DirectCD disks, but this is not common to my knowledge (I don't use DirectCD or EasyCD Creator... I use Nero for all my stuff).
CDs can only hold so much data, and as you start dragging your files into the burning program, the program will tell you how much room you have left on the cd. You do not have use one cd for each individual file. Backing up is basically the same as when you make a music CD. The only differernce is that instead of music files, the files are documents, pictures, etc.
Lastly, I would recommend you use CD-R instead of CD-RW. I have had bad experiences with CD-RW and backup data, so I never use CD-RWs for that reason. Consider also making two copies of each backup Cd for safety.... then check the cds to make sure data is secured and burned correctly.

Yes, if you don't feel confident working with the hardware, then by all means try to find someone who can. See if you can find a friend at work who has worked on computers and knows what to do.

Hold on here... I just thought of something... maybe your dpi settings are wrong. I guess I should have asked, but are you using a CRT monitor or an LCD monitor? Please respond to this question.

In any case, Do this...
Open Display Properties
Click on the Settings tab
Click on Advanced button
On the General tab, ensure the dpi setting is set to 96dpi
Click on Apply/Ok and see if it helps.

Makai, I guess you haven't seen my last message to you yet but I got the colors back to normal! I figure you'll find the message soon enough so I won't repeat myself. But I'm using a CRT monitor. I'm thinking of trying a flat screen with the next computer, what's your opinion on them? I use Nero for my CD burning. Glad you told me about the CD"s I probably would of put them on the RW's. So I'm going to print out all your instructions and hopefully I won't have trouble backing up. So what your saying is I click on the little yellow folders and drag? I put the CD in first and then find what I'm looking for? Oh man, too bad you weren't closer, I would fix you a nice dinner if you could come over and do this! LOL! So anyway to make sure I have done it right afterwards I put the CD back in and check it all and hope for the best! Thanks

LOL!!! How did I miss your posting??? You must have posted it right before I submitted my post. Of course, my post took a bit longer to write!

In any case, "I" didn't do anything... you must have performed some kind of magic! I'm so glad it's working... finally!!!!!!!!

I love my flat screen, but being a "closet" geek, I tend to only buy expensive things that I know will last a while... and only from well known manufactures. My current LCD is a Viewsonic VP912b. It's Viewsonics Pro 19 inch model and it cost me $599 when I bought it. The only reason I'm telling you this is because, there are so many makers of LCDs and you can easily find some for under $200... but... you get what you pay for, so don't forget that!

LCDs are great, supposedly they give you less eye strain. Text wise, they are actually clearer as long as you run the LCD in it's native resolution. What I mean by that is that LCDs have a specified desktop size and if you go outside this size, text, etc, will not look clear. For instance, if you run a 17 inch LCD (native of 1024 x 768) in 800 x 600 resolution, the text will absolutely look ugly with skraggily (is there such a word?) edges! You would always need to run the LCD in 1024 x 768 for it to look clear. Hope that's not too confusing. The short answer is I think you will like it, but it will take some getting used to converting from a CRT.

Yes, you can drag whole folders, or separate files into the program. You say you're running Nero... tell you what, I'll write a tutorial for you if you want. Check you PM and I will leave my email. If you want me to write a tutorial, then just email me.

Thanks for the info on the LCD's, good info to know. Now I like to make my "text size" on large, is that going to distort it? I hate trying to read tiny writing, am I giving away my age! OOPS!
