I suspect that the problem I have been having are to do with the USB devices I have attached to this computer. For example I recently bought a small USB scanner which scans business cards. It wouldn't work saying that the driver was not recognised etc. I spent hours trying to get it to work. I then tried pugiing into my laptop and it worked immediately. I just went to System, Hardware and note under USB devices that the Biz Card scanner on my PC had not been taken off and it had a yellow exclamation mark against it. I have now deleted this. I really feel you are onto something here. I have a digital camera with Fine Pix software and that software has never worked and I use Windows Explorer to make it work. Perhaps I should delete off the Fine Pix software.
Also my Norton Live Update is sending me a message to make some changes which I will send in a separate message and I wanted to see if you think I should make the chnages Norton is suggesting or ignore it for now?
Regards
Mike

Shall I make these changes or await the USB issues to be resolved first?

Mike,

Try disconnecting all usb hardware that isnt critical like mouse and keyboard. Uninstall the software for each of those devices. Then through the device manager uninstall the usb and reboot to let windows find it and reinstall its drivers.

Then one at a time start adding your usb devices.

We will look at norton once we take care of the usb problem, but I do have one uestion for you about it at this time, would you be adverse to changiing antiviruses? Norton is often associated with computer problems. If you dont mind a change we can set you up with a good free av or recommend a better pay one.

Q1. Don't know how I can unistall software without the mouse or kepyboard?
I have a "USB" external hub and several USB ports on the PC. I have a remote mouse which doesn't work all the time so have one mouse on a USB. I have a scanner attached to a USB hub and a USB keyboard / mouse through the USB port on the PC. I do have other USB devices like MP3's and a digital camera which I connect to as and when needed.
Q2. When I do uninstall USB do I then check to see that Dr Watson doesn't reappear when right clicking folders on my Desktop each time?
BRgds

I am writing to aplogise for not responding. I have been too busy to do what you last suggested because of work committments and so the only time would be weekends but have either been travelling or other commitments, and I hope to turn to this soon.
Kind Regards
