import export not on file menu

I'm working in word 2003, today i needed to import some documents from my scanner and found that the import export option was not on the file menu. i checked the command file it was not even listed there. i got out the program disk and made sure i added all options and advanced commands and checked again - still no import export option. Does anyone know how to correct this?
