My explorer runs, but I cant call up my start menu or view my desktop as it usually is. I can open up all of my folders on my comp though. I just pulled out of a few attacks, and I had to get rid of that stupid smtfraud, as well as clear my desktop of that Blue Screen message. Im pretty sure I manually removed most, if not all of the instances of spyware / adware, but here is my log just in case :

. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"


3. You have the latest version of VX2.

• Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

• Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  
• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then OPEN the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #"1" for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter.
  
• This will scan your computer and it may appear as if nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.
  
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing "2" and then pressing ENTER.
  
• Then press any key to reboot your computer.
  
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer.
  
• When it's finished, Notepad will open with a log.
  
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

I ran the fix as instructed, and it appeared to work, as my computer went through the reboot, however, once my computer rebooted the scan did not continue. My explorer is still booting in a window, and none of my icons appeared then disappeared. No log opened with notepad, so i cant really post it. But I will post the new HJT log.

We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

• Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  
• Click the Extended tab.
  
• Scroll down until you find the service.
  ===>Service: ZESOFT
  
• Click once on the service to highlight it.
  
• Click Stop
  
• Right-Click on the service.
  
• Click on 'Properties'
  
• Select the 'General' tab
  
• Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  
• From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  
• Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type ZESOFT in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept
5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE
6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):
C:\WINDOWS\zeta.exe
7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode
8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

I would advise you to stay off the net as much as possible until we get these infections all cleared up. You have picked up a few more since your last post.

1. DELETE all the files/folders pertaining to l2mfix.

2. DELETE your current version of HJT

3. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

4. Run HJT, SCAN and post a fresh log.

Now we will go after this infection with a fix from Miekiemoes:

It is really important you perform everything exactly as I ask you in the same order, so I strongly suggest you print this out, because you have to work in safe mode.

• Download Process Explorer:

• Download Killbox:

• Reboot into Safe Mode` ( without networking support !)
  
  
  The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.
  
  
• Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe
  
  
• In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen.
  
  
• Click on the Threads tab at the top.
  
  
• Once you see this screen click on each instance of q20193486_disk.dll once and then click the kill button.
  
  
• After you have killed all of the q20193486_disk.dll's under winlogon click OK.
  
  
• Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of q20193486_disk.dll then click the kill button.
  
  
• Click on the Threads tab at the top.
  
  
• Once you have done that click OK again.
  
  
• Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

  Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

• Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  
• Click the Extended tab.
  
• Scroll down until you find the service.
  ===>Service: NTSVCMGR
  
• Click once on the service to highlight it.
  
• Click Stop
  
• Right-Click on the service.
  
• Click on 'Properties'
  
• Select the 'General' tab
  
• Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  
• From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  
• Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type NTSVCMGR in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept
5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE
6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):
c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32\winlogon.exe


C REBOOT back into Normal Mode

D Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

This is going to lokk like "deja vu"


While I have your attention, I would like to inform you that it is an enormous waste of resources to have all of office launch at startup. Also, IP Insight Monitor, is not really that beneficial and is constantly "phoning home" to report on the condition of your connection. If, after reading this, you decide you want them not to launch automatically and thus save a lot of resources, please inform me in your next post.

We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

• Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  
• Click the Extended tab.
  
• Scroll down until you find the service.
  ===>Service: NTLOAD
  
• Click once on the service to highlight it.
  
• Click Stop
  
• Right-Click on the service.
  
• Click on 'Properties'
  
• Select the 'General' tab
  
• Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  
• From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  
• Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type NTLOAD in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept
5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE
6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following folder and all its content(if it still is present):
c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32

C. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

D. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

I would very much like to know how to free up my resources by taking office of of my startup. Also, it sounds to me like IP insight isnt a good startup program as well, so I would like to remove that as well. I also have expressed an interest in learning about how to help people with malicious software in the "Joining Geeks to Go" , and I just want to restate that it is not just a "Spur of the moment" idea, and as I would like to become a programmer, this would be a cool thing for me to learn about.
