Ok, I'm hoping someone out there can give me a hand. My comp recently downloaded all these virus from unknown websites. The worst I've been having trouble getting rid of was Aurora . . . which hasn't showed up in a while, but this VeryLince constantly adds and modifies things. Please help! :help: Listed below is what the scan from Hijack This produced:

Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz: I'm kool808 and I will be helping you today.

I am working on your log. As soon as I made a good fix for this, I will post a reply. Thank you for your patience.

It is highly recommended that you install your HijackThis Tool in a safe location where you can easily find them. It is suggested you place them in C:\HJT, that way it could create backups necessary for future restore.

Is this all the log contains? It seems to be incomplete.

Hey, thanks for checking out the problem. Sorry about the double post . . . My comp froze during the original post, and I wasn't sure it went through. Take your time :-)

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite [ HERE ]
Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from Link 1 or Link 2
Unzip it to the desktop but please DO NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
(How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.exe. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [hwo8RRMsO] rpccore.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cmek] C:\WINDOWS\system32\??stem\smss.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\??stem\smss.exe
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpccore.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Even in safe mode, the computer will not let me delete smss.exe, and when I try to shut down the running process . . . I get a message saying its a critical system process.

Click http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder(126).exe to download the VX2Finder.exe tool. Click on the VX2Finder.exe and then click on the Click to Find VX2.Betterinternet button. It will display the files, the Guardian Key and User Agent string. Now click the Make Log button. It will open the log in notepad. Copy and paste that log here and wait for further instructions.

the VeryLince virus is constantly infecting files on my comp. They sometimes come in quicker succession than other times. Is there any way to stop or slow this process?

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware 1.06r from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in HERE
  • Install the VX2 Cleaner
  • Start Ad-Aware SE
  • Go to "Plug-ins"
  • Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Plugin"

  • Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
  • Remove any VX2 objects detected
  • Reboot your computer again
  • Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Please close all remaining windows, disconnect from the internet, open HijackThis then click SCAN. Please put a check on the following items listed below:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Reinstall - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ofecnv32.dll

Make sure to double check the items you have selected, then click Fix Checked.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Click HERE to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpccore.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ofecnv32.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Restart in SAFE MODE and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.

This time place a tick by any of these selections available

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reboot back in NORMAL MODE.

To make sure it is perfectly clean let us have the final check.
  • Close all windows, open HijackThis then SCAN.
  • Post a NEW HijackThis Log.
  • Post the new VX2 Log
  • Please tell me how your system is working now.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Location 1: HERE
Location 2: HERE

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
