Does not sound good. Do you still have your old hard drive? Try putting the new on in as slave and see if you can access the files in it. Hope you have a warranty.

Is the drive recognised correctly in the bios? If not, can you tell us the make/model of your motherboard please?

Thanks for the PM, Jones08. I do need to know whether or not the bios is recognising the drive.
Most bios's can be accessed by pressing the DEL key repeatedly a few seconds after powering the system on. If DEL doesn't work, try one of the following keys : F1, F2, F10

Can you also tell me whether the drive is Serial ATA or standard IDE?
Also, is your computer a big brand name one, such as Dell or Compaq, or was it custom built etc?
