I have not had sound on my computer for over two years. Had a technician out to repair the problem. I had to go to work so left my "kids" in charge. My kids said repairman couldn't fix the sound 'cause I needed new speakers. Bought new ones and still no sound. Went to Best Buy and purchased a sound card after getting advice to do so from salesperson who'd sold me the new speakers. Asked my son to install it, he claimed the sound card was the incorrect size. So, what I need to know is: 1) are all sound cards a universal size? I assumed they were as Best Buy person didn't inquire what type of a system I used. 2) Can I install the sound card myself or do I need professional help?

You should be able to install the soundcard yourself. There will be instructions that will lead you step by step to install the card and the drivers.
