Hi Guys,

I had a problem with Win2K PC: it run extremely slow...In order to even open program menu I had to wait almost a minute..
when I opened task manager - had a service "svcas.exe" which was taking up a lot of space. After I killed his process, it instantly show up again starting with mem usage in about 1000k and going to up to 184000k in about couple minutes.
It resided in C:\WINNT\addins. I had references of this file in registry, which I could not remove.

Does anybody knows what this process is? I have tried to search for it, but there is no information on it.

Thank you.
Tanya

PS. I shredded this file and it seems to fix a problem...

Hello Tanya, welcome to Geeks to Go! <_<

Don't know exactly what it was, but it was certainly some type of randomonly named malware.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
