I have had bargain buddy problems for awhile but now this bloodhound.w32.ep is killing my computer. I have used ewido, norton, cleanup!, adware and spybot in safe mode and when I restart, nothing has changed. Here is my HijackThis log:

Hello and welcome.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Reboot.

Run a new scan with HiJackThis and post the fresh log here.

Hi again!

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Download Hoster.zip

Unzip it to the desktop to own folder, but DON'T run it yet.

Download
CleanUp

Run the CleanUp! installer and get the program ready to be used but don't run it yet.

Run a scan with HiJackThis, and close any other open windows and/or open browser. Once the scan has finished, check the following objects for removal;

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\PANELS\BLANK.HTM
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O1 - Hosts: &mskip=1&rnd=4599", 180000, "false");

Make sure they are checked, then hit "Fix Checked".

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files - option.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders and delete if present;

C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\ <= Entire Folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp3F17.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intell32.exe

If the folders/files aren't there, just jump on to the next step and let me know.

Run Hoster;

Hit "Restore Original Hosts" and click "Ok".
Exit Hoster.

Now, run CleanUp! making sure to reboot.

Boot up into normal mode - run a new scan with HiJackThis and post the fresh log here. Let me know how things went.

Ahh finally home...Alright, after following your instructions I have a couple of notes. I couldn't find any of the files to delete after rebooting into safe mode (party poker folder, hp3f17.tmp, intell32.exe). Also, I have ran CleanUp! before and I just re-used the custom settings I had before and not the thorough cleanup...didn't know if it made a big difference or not. Here is the hijackthis log after following the procedure:

Although you can probably tell this from the above log, I am still getting the constant message that Norton was unable to repair Bloodhound.w32.EP, but on the brighter side I didn't get the Desktop Trojan message yet :tazz: Thank you again for all your time and help.

Hi again.

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home Computers" to download the program.
  • Double-click the file to install it as follows:
    • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
    • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
    • Leave the default installation directoy as it is, then click "Next".
    • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
    • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
    • Finally, click "Install"
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
    Disable SpySweeper Shields
    • Click Shields on the left.
    • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
    • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
    • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Once the definitions are installed and shields disabled, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.
Now go, and run a free online scan with Trend Micro

Use the "Auto-clean" - option. Save the log it produces & let it clean anything it finds - post the results here along with the SpySweeper session log.

I noticed that the lower portion is at an earlier time, and since the program froze (above detail), I had to restart the computer and try to reinstall the program.

Now here is the log of the Trend Housecall:

CLEAN SYSTEM!

I didn't know if it produced a log because I couldn't find one similar to the style of HijackThis...so if I need to re-run it let me know.
After the run I tried to exit some of the frozen programs on my computer and everything just about froze so I turned the computer off. If you need any other logs such as HJT let me know and I'll try to produce them a.s.a.p.

Thank you once again for all your help!

Update: Ahh...thought I was gonna be in the clear after the CLEAN SYSTEM message and the safe reboot, but when I opened up Internet Explorer to try to re-establish my homepage...the Bloodhound unable to fix message kept coming up again... :tazz:

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Download CleanUp!

Run the CleanUp! installer and get the program ready to be used but don't run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following;

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE; During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Run CleanUp! making sure to reboot!

Boot up into normal mode and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Let me know how's it running now.

What is this virus...Alright, I followed the procedure and here are the following notables:

-After running smitRem in safe mode, it found winINET files and changed it, but then the problem occured when it started disc cleanup...It paused near the end of "calculating the space opened.." So I let it run for five hours until my lunchbreak and when I got home, it was still in the same spot, so I hit cancel, re-ran it and the log I got is from after I re-ran the program

-After running the programs in safe mode, I rebooted the computer, and when it tried to start a message stating that it could not open/run c:/delfiles.cmd

-Near the end of the Panda scan, the message that Norton could not delete Bloodhound.W32.EP could not be repaired came up (just once)

Stupid virus...

Here is the smitfiles.txt log:

Whew that was a lot, and probably not even enough :tazz:

My appreciation for you taking the time to go through all of this to help me out with this problem is never ending, and thank you again for your time and help.

Update: The message from Norton came up again, but this time I noticed that the directory it came from was the same exact thing that SmitRem changed WinInet to (I dont know what it named it from, but it changed it to WinInet.old, which is what the message contained)

Also I keep getting a message from Microsoft Outlook asking me if I want to make a new profile...never happened before but it keeps asking me to make a new profile...odd

I need you to download MWav to a convenient location.

This scan might take around 3+ hours to finish when set to scan everything.
I need you to run MWav by double-clicking on mwav.exe.
Put a check next to the below items before scanning:
  • Memory
  • Startup Folders
  • Drive - All Local Drives
  • Folder - then click "browse" to change the directory to C: (default is C:\Windows)
  • Registry
  • System Folders
  • Services
  • Include Sub-Directory
  • Scan All Files
Please make sure ALL of these are checked, then press the Scan button. This typically will take hours to complete.

**NOTE*** Sometimes MWav will pause and it appears to be finished, but it isn't done. Just let it run until it says it's complete.

On the bottom portion of the window, you will see the lower panel where MWav is listing "infected items". When it's done scanning, please highlight everything in that lower panel and copy them by holding CTRL + C then paste it here. The whole log will be extremely BIG so there is no way to post the log. I just need the infected items list.

You thought the whole log was long...

It said it found 827 infected files and 171 viruses...the log was so long that I am going to try to add it as an attachment...

Hopefully it comes up...the attachment is called Microworldlog.

If you can't reach it let me know and I will try to post it, but when I tried posting before it cut it off halfway...17 pages on microsoft word :tazz:

Actually it's not looking bad at-all, cheer up man! ;)

What I wan't you to do, is to empty out your Norton's quarantine.

Then do this online scan for me and be sure to use "Auto-clean" option!

Panda Activescan

It shouldn't take too long, post the results here for me.

Here is the new news...

0 objects in quarantine

and here is the log of the panda activescan

Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/gator No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\GatorPatch.log

Adware:adware/savenow No disinfected HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\MAGNET

Possible Virus. No disinfected

I guess it doesn't clean out the spyware unless you buy the pro version...

Other notes:
Towards the end of the scan the "unable to repair..." came up again as well as the random Outlook make a new profile thing...Seems like it tries to make me go to my control panel to make a profile..

Thanks for the little up in confidence as well as the help
