I was wondering if the site WINMX (music download site) is notorious for malware, viruses, ect.... If any one has info on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks

The newer versions of LimeWire are believed to be trusted, However, I still don't trust it.

There are two things to be concerned about.

The issue being discussed here basically boils down to whether the P2P software comes bundled with infections or it performs certain unwarranted behaviour (like pop-ups or install sponsor programs etc.).

The link posted by Excal identifies good and bad P2P programs from this stand point.

Some of the vendors also take the "good" programs and bundle them with infections before posting them for download. So be very sure of where you are downloading the software from.

Another risk, a bigger and a continuing risk is the files which are shared and downloaded. A lot of the files which are shared are in two categories - cracks of legit programs and p0rn. All files shared and specially files in the earlier mentioned categories have infections bundled in. So when the downloaded files are used, the PC can get infected. Of course copyright issues are additional concerns.

Again, be sure of what you are downloading and from which site !!!!!

Shareaza has no adware or spyware whatsoever and it tells you if the file could be infected or is fake.
