i found this strange as i hadn't installed Sp2 by then on my new hard drive an know that windows xp sp1 doesn't come with a firewall, i am using mcafee's firewall set on high security, and this then popped up with a warning that
PLEXTCERL.EXE was trying to access the web
i blocked this file and soon after got a virus alert from mcafee's virus scan 2005 stating that RDSNDIN.EXE was infected with the I.SPY.i virus and that it had deleted the file
i then ran a full system scan to see if anything else was infected
and it came up with c:\WINDOWS\baloon.wav that it also deleted
i then ran spy-bot-S&D and it found FIND-A.spy that no matter how many times i try to clean just wont go away
every now and then it will redirect me to [bleep] sites depending on what web-pages i visit or casino pages with [bleep] attributes
i know that hi-jack this doesn't show these files as being present as far as i am aware and that searches with hidden files and folders and also show hidden system files does not work in finding them nether
i have tried turning off system restore then waiting for mcafee's to find and delete them then resetting my system then turning system restore back on with out getting online first
i have tried to delete them using the command line but still it says that it can not find these files yet i still have them appear every time i start up windows explorer
the only way i found out about ntfsnlpa.exe was by using security-task manager which will close and then stop the file from running, this is fine for about 3 hours where i will not have any pop ups but then it will start again
i have also noticed that PING.EXE is now running in my normal task manager
i have tried using kill box but it also doesn't find the file[s]
mcafee's also found and deleted about 10 links that were added to favorites
but as i still am suffering from this annoyance i turn to you lot, please bear in mind that so far i have tried
KILLBOX
CCLEANER and deleted everything in all temp folders and let it run analysis on my registry and then clean it
X-CLEANER
MCAFEES VIRUS SCAN 2005 with the latest updates and virus definition's
SPYBOT-S&D
SECURITY TASK MANAGER- that shows NTFSNLPA.EXE
also did a online scan with mcafee's and also panda that also showed up nothing
so according to everything else my system is fine yet i still get these pop ups i still get warnings from mcafee's about finding RDSNDIN.EXE and NTFSNLPA.EXE still pops up
i do not suffer the windows fire wall messages that come in the form of a windows security window no more, but i do get balloon pop ups from my task-bar by the clock saying that my virus scan is pap
what i know about ntfsnlpa.exe-
its stealth-ed
its hidden
its not a system file
its [bleep] well annoying
i have added my security task manager export file security_task_manager_system_prosses.html 86.36KB 62 downloads as this shows a better run down of hidden and stealth-ed files that are running on my system at the time i have a balloon pop up generated by NTFSNPL.EXE
and here is my HJT log
