Yesterday I was surfing online, reviewing some bank information thru my banking website-As is my customary routine - I deleted the history of my websites looked at (thru internet options). During this process my computer froze. I hit ctrl+alt+delete 2x's to restart. When the computer started up it shot me to the Windows 98 set up screen (as if I was newly installing it for the first time). I don't have the certif of authenticity anymore so I have to call Microsoft for the info. But I am more perplexed as to what could have caused this and what the damage may be to the computer. Also I was given Windows XP to try and load onto the computer and it still went to the Windows 98 set up screen. Help someone!! BTW- I have a DELL optiplex gx 100

Your product key should be on the Getting Started with Windows 98 booklet or your computer case. Unless you installed from a store bought disk they aren't on the cd case.

You could easily have a malware problems, or you may have lost the cetificatiion, inside the computer, that the product key is valid.
