Hello,

Yesterday I downloaded something I should not have and have been paying big time ever since.

I've deleted most of the malicious stuff I found but still getting popups that are from Aurora - Part of the ABI Network. I have heard that there's a nail.exe that's part of this but deleting that file does not fix the problem.

I have run Adaware several times to no avail. Below is my HJT logfile. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi bdrose64 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. One of your infections is the Elite Toolbar infection. We will tackle this one first.

A. Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

B. Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

C. Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hello and thanks for your help. I did as you asked and when I re-booted in normal mode Adaware came up to finish doing a boot time scan to remove some things. I then ran the HJT and my new logfile is below. Still getting Aurora pop ups by the way.

We cannot get going on the main problem yet as it appears that your system may have a new strain of Aurora that won't completely respond to our current fixes. So we will continue fixing the smaller ones (that's relative) that would have to be fixed eventually.

The Epolvy Trojan

Print this out please

1. Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

2. Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.

qnyocxx

3. Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

4. Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...

5. In the explorer Window, locate and select the file c:\windows\system32\qnyocxx

6. When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

7. After the reboot, check the following items in HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dfuvpq] c:\windows\system32\qnyocxx.exe r

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

8. REBOOT your system

9. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hello,

I actually was following another thread and I know I probably should not have but I followed someone elses instructions on removing nail.exe. I used nailfix and also ewido and thought I had solved my problem but did not.

Now when I ran the process exployer though, I did not see qnyocxx anywhere.

I have attached a new HJT log for review and THIS TIME I will wait for your reply :tazz:

I don't want to sound cocky, it is not my intention here. But this is the point of the lance as far as YOUR particular infection goes. You may be able to remove parts of Nail through other fixes but not what we believe is a new variant that you have on your system. I discovered it by chance last night in another log and our specialists are looking at it and working on it. You will not find a cure anywhere else for this problem today. Most boards aren't even aware of it yet.

Every time you reboot your system this trojan mutates. If you have rebooted since you sent me this log then I need another. I await your reply before providing a new fix for the Trojan.

Trevuren

Now, I would like to not touch anything else until the fix is ready. I should be in touch within the next 24 hours.

A couple more baddies that we can get rid of while we wait for the fix. There is just one element missing now. We thought we would have it by supper but...

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ui125pka] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ui125pka.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: https://*.webconference.com
    O16 - DPF: {205FF73B-CA67-11D5-99DD-444553540000} (CInstall Class) - http://www.webconfer...all/Install.cab

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file, and DELETE it (if it is present):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ui125pka.exe

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
Regards,

Trevuren

Hi,

I did as you said and when I rebooted in safe mode the file ui125pka.exe was nowhere to be found on my system. I then booted into normal mode and sure enough, more aurora pop-ups.

Below is the latest HJT log:

This is what we have been waiting for. After running this, you will still have Aurora popups but we will now be able to tacklr them the conventional way.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type "regedit" without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP. Export the file to your Desktop.

If a restore of the registry is required in case of emergency, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successfull.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into the new document. Save it to your desktop as drsearch.reg and as "AllFiles" as file type.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{8B51FC2F-C687-40a3-B54A-BB9EBF8D407F}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{CE27D4DF-714B-4427-95EB-923FE53ADF8E}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{E2D2FE40-5674-4b77-802B-EC86B6C2C41D}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{E311D3A5-4A3B-4e49-9E0A-B40FAE1F0B28}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{8F73AC0F-5769-4282-8762-B396A3BFF377}]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Dinst"=-

3. Locate drsearch.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

4. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

5. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the followig files:

C:\Windows\dsr.dll
C:\Windows\dinst.exe

6. Reboot into Normal Mode

7. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
