Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box:

cleanmgr

Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here.

Did you use the cleanmgr before running ActiveScan?

It found some stuff in Temporary Internet Files. You need to empty them again. You might empty them in Safe Mode in case they are "in use" for any reason.

Delete the following folders:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\Media Access
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\FAVORITES\Going Places

When you get the security setting message is it from a specific program or is it actually from IE?

Yes, I get a pop up that says exactly this:

"Your Current Security Settings Do Not Allow This File To Be Download"

http://s57.yousendit...OK32ZLFA2NK268G

Saying something like that file.

Cannot download even Windows Update.

I have Avast and Zone Alarm.. well, you have my HiJackThis log.. everything looks normal..

Joe

Thanks.. (I deleted them files) and I ran activescan last.

Don't forget to empty your Temporary Internet Files again...

It's got to be something with your security settings in IE.

Go to Tools > Internet Options, click the security tab, then click "Internet" then click "default level"

Any help?

Glad that worked :tazz:

Copy everything in the code box below (starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" then click the drop-down box to change the
"Save As Type" to "All Files" Save it as fixme.reg on your desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\extensions\CmdMapping\{669695BC-A811-4A9D-8CDF-BA8C795F261C}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{72423E8F-8011-11D2-BE79-00A0C9A83DA3}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\{faa356e4-d317-42a6-ab41-a3021c6e7d52}]
Double-click fixme.reg on your desktop and when asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES.

Any other problems?

After you make it you, double-click the file and allow it to merge with the registry. After it says it was successfully merged, you can delete it ;)

You're welcome. :tazz:

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definitely a must have. Three good free versions are Sygate, Kerio, and ZoneAlarm.
