right click my computer > manage > device manager.. look for the nic card and either update the driver from the disk....or uninstall it....this location should also tell you what kind of card it is

when i right click it it just gives me to options: open, explor, search, create shortcut, rename, properties

it is just the icon at the top of the desktop(shortcut i think) we only have one log in

ok...i'll get you to where i wanted you to be....start > run > mmc
once that opens > file > add/remove snap in > add > device manager

when i type "mmc" into run and hit okay it just say it doesn't recognize it

you got tt wrong .....
start button-
right click on the "my computer" icon
go to "properties"
select the "Hardware" tab
select the "Device manager" button
Click the plus sighn under the "network adapters" catagories to expand or minimise the catagory
if there is a yellow exclamation point or a red x in this catagory let me know.
