i've been using this old version of quicken 3.0 for several years with no problem. today i came across a web site that messed my system up and i've been getting rid of trojans and crap all day. when i tried to run quicken i got this message.......

C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose "close" to terminate the application.

at this point it gives me two options.... 'close' or 'ignore' and they both terminate the program before it starts up. so i thought i would delete the program and reinstall........well, DUH! now when i try to install the old quicken i get the same message. so i can't install my checkbook program.

Go to "My Computer" and double click your hard drive (usually c:\). Next double click "windows", double click "system32" and find the file named config.nt Right click the file and click "open". Pick "Choose the program from a list". Pick notepad Scroll down to the bottom of the text and enter the line shown below:

device=%systemroot%\system32\himem.sys

DO NOT ADD REM AT THE BEGINNING

Click 'File' at the top left of the window and click "Save" close the window.


Next find the file named autoexec.nt in the system32 folder also.
Right click the file and click "open". Pick "Choose the program from a list". Pick notepad Scroll down to the bottom of the text and enter the line shown below:

lh %systemroot%\system32\dosx.exe

DO NOT ADD REM AT THE BEGINNING

Click 'File' at the top left of the window and click "Save" close the window.
You will now be able to run Quicken. I would also advise posting a hijack this log (make sure it is the latest version, you can download it from the hijack this guide link in my signature) since obviously something bad has entered your system to screw it up.

ok i did what you asked as far as adding those two lines to the files.

i already had done all my scanning and did post a HJT file but it is under the HJT side of the house under the viruses and such. if ya wanna..........take a look at it and see what gives

after a couple of hours have gone by i went to get into my quicken again and lo-and-behold......got the same [bleep] message. so i went back and the autoexec.nt file wasn't in the system32 folder in the windows folder. i KNOW i saved it there. what gives? me or the puter
