Welcome to GTG.

This has been a problem lately and I can't figure out exactly what's causing this. One user said they got rid of that error when they did a system restore (go back with a restore point). I say try that first. If it fails, then do this:

Right click on http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.vbs and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Run both of these:
Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Heres a fresh hijackthis log, "Silentrunners" results and the report from Panda which came back with 1 entry. The Trendmicro scan came back clean.

as a threat which Ada-Aware SE and Spybot both failed to find earlier today

Thx again in advance

Aso i just ran Ad-aware and spybot again, Ad-aware came back clean but Spybot found a few security risks, these came up about 2 days ago after an update so I fixed them, then on reboot I get a pop-up waring that my firewall/anti-Virus is off for about 2 seconds before Norton kicks in.

--- Search result list ---
Security Risks: Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify!=dword:0

Yep, just as expected, it's all clean :tazz:

This one always seem to give problems. Try these:

Download CWShredder at http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe. Don't run it yet.

Download cwsserviceremove http://www.greyknigh...rviceremove.zip and unzip it to your desktop. Don't run it yet.

Download AboutBuster http://www.greyknigh...AboutBuster.zip and unzip the files to a folder on your Desktop. Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Update button to see if there are any updates. Close the program now.

Boot into Safe Mode.

Run CWShredder. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and then click OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Run AboutBuster and click Begin Removal button. Once that's done, just hit the OK button. Click Exit once you are done. Click the OK button and it should exit. Open up the 'Ab LogFile.txt' (which was created in the same folder as AboutBuster) and post the log here.

Run cwsserviceremove.reg and say yes to add it to the registry.

Restart and see if the error still comes up.

Hi again and thx

Done all as you suggested:

CWshredder didnt come back with any random file name

Aboutbuster log as posted below (clean)

and added CWservicenomore to the registry

I only had the Dr watsons error the once for the 1st time yesterday and as I never knew what it was may have jumped the gun. Am I to believe the Dr watsons is part of the windows install or is it somthing I have "picked up" on my net travels.
I tracked to c:/windows/system32 where I have the both drwatson and drwtsn32
and from from what I can tell look quite legit.

They are legit files, so leave them alone :tazz:

OK, let's see what's causing this. Did you install any codecs for your movies (if you have any)? If you do, I want you to go into your movie (avi files) folder and see if the folder freezes on you. Can you open any of the files? If there's no problem there, then proceed to the next step.

If the above is ok, I want you to create another user account similar to this one. Just create it from the Control Panel->User Accounts. Now login to that new account. Does the Dr. Watson error popup anymore?

Please tell me which step you took and what happened so we can fix this problem up. It's not related to spyware. More software or Windows oriented.

I have checked through my movies folders and some I thought i had no codec for just wont play so I have deleted those files. Other than that everything check out ok, no problems with the folders and such.

To be honest I'm just glad its not malware/spyware related and am very happy with the help you have given me. Dr watsons hasnt showed its head since yesterday and I hope it stays that way :tazz:

thanks again for all your help
