Hello, njlock, welcome to GeeksToGo Forums :tazz:

You have a partially removed vundo.b infection.

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C044AAD-7955-4cbd-8175-501A165C4E5D} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: mcs - C:\WINDOWS\mcs.dll (file missing)

  • Once they all have a check next to them, close all browser and explorer windows(even this one) and click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

Hi Joey;
I appreciate your reply, since I posted, I ran a few more scans, and downloaded some other programs, and seem to have cleared up the problems, I'm not getting the winfix popups anymore, and all my scans are coming back clean. I posted the following post a couple of days ago, I was'nt sure if I should reply to my own post or not so I posted a new post. The paragraph below is the bulk of my post.
I also made a donation , and am very grateful to all you guys (and gals?) for all your good works. All the programs I have listed below are the ones I'm refering to as coming back with clean scans.
Thanks Again, Dave (NJLOCK)

I actually had a problem, that was resolved by following the advice in "READ THIS". ( I was surprised, 1st time, no help, after the 3rd set of scans, something did the trick!!!
But now I wonder which/what software to keep running.I read in one of the posts it may not be good to run more than one spyware at a time. I had been running Ad-aware Plus (latest version), webroot Spy sweeper, Norton Antivirus, Spyblaster,spybot-search and destroy (and Internet security on my work computer), What I added to the mix that apprantly killed my trojans ( I was getting the winfix pop ups, and 6 trojans that ad aware would detect, but were reloaded when windows restarted) was,
* ewido security suite;
* cleanup!
* trojanhunter
* cwshredder "

Well, we have to get rid of a few leftover registry entries. Run HijackThis, do a system scan, and place a check in these lines:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C044AAD-7955-4cbd-8175-501A165C4E5D} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mcs - C:\WINDOWS\mcs.dll (file missing)

Close all other windows and hit 'Fix Checked'. Reboot and post a new log.

As for what software to keep, you can keep everything except maybe cwshredder, just don't use 2 anti-viruses or firewalls at a time.

You won't need cwshredder as you no longer have cws and Microsoft AntiSpyware will keep it from coming back.

You can fix this line, otherwise you have a clean log.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway

To prevent an infection in the future, I highly recommend following these steps:

1. Practice safe browsing - Don't click on every activex window, don't click pop-ups, and don't browse suspicious websites. Also, avoid P2P networks.

2. Keep Windows Updated - Visit Windows Update regularly to make sure your computer has the latest security patches.

3. Lock down IE - To make IE more secure, I recommend these programs:
IESpyad---------Tutorial
SpywareBlaster---Tutorial
Hosts file

Some people abandon IE altogether and use a different browser. FireFox is a good safe alternative to IE.

4. Scan your computer regularly - Scan your computer with Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware weekly to make sure your computer is spyware-clean.

5. Keep your antivirus updated - Keeping your antivirus updated is very important, as new viruses are discovered daily. If your anti-virus has an update scheduling feature, use it to schedule weekly updates so you'll always be protected against the latest viruses.

6. Use a firewall - For a firewall, the bare minimum is to use the one that comes with windows. If you want a different one, Zone Alarm, Sygate, and Kerio are all good choices. Some people prefer Kerio 2.1.5 for its simpler interface.

Well, goodbye, and stay safe. :tazz:
