I keep getting a msgbox from avg saying i have a virus but when i run a scan it doesn't pick anything up

the msgbox says

virus identified java/byte veritfy

that is just one of the file paths but there or 1 or 2 others i keep getting, but they are all in C:\DOCUME~1\Philip\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

I got that post again, I found out that it pops up everytime i try and run ad-aware

Make sure you clean out your temp. files. If you still get the warning, post back and I'll tell you how I fix those entries from AVG. The way I've instructed in this post is much easier.

I downloaded the new version of AVG and now it detects the virus when i run a scan but it can't heal it or delete it or move it to the vault

Is it the same virus you posted at the top of the thread?

I know from experience that those are very time-consuming and aggravating.

I'm sure you have already: but make sure you clean out your temp. files and make sure all files are showing.

What I do, is I go directly to that file that is found on AVG, I right-click on it and scan it using AVG. If that is the file that is indeed infected, I delete it. Then clean out your temp. files again. Reboot and run AVG again.

If that doesn'twork, let us know. We can turn off system restore and do the same thing - ie: find the file again and delete it.

Here are the instructions for that.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
