Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double-click the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Do not run it yet.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop (You can do this, by going to the page, the right-clicking and choosing "Create Shortcut".

Please download Ewido Security Suite

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select "Safe Mode" and hit enter.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Now open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
Next go to Start > Control Panel.
  • Double-click Display.
  • Click the Desktop tab
  • Click the "Customize Desktop" button
  • Click the Web tab.
  • Uncheck "Security Info" if present.
Reboot back into Windows, connect to the Internet, and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut on your desktop, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Hi banana ;) ..nice to see you again!! Wish it was under different circumstances...things have been good...a bit complicated...hope all is well with you...by the way, I have something for you... :tazz:

...followed directions, three exceptions...

No 'autoclean' option on Panda

start up in Normal mode generated message "C:\WINDOWS\System32 \kernels32.exe file not found"

couldn't get ewido to run. left safe mode. reinstalled. back to safe mode. ran it. had already run smitRem and Adaware. so there was a safe break. in the middle of the three.

SOOOOO here are the 3 logs, PandaActive, HJT, and Ewido!!! 2 am here..off to bed...up at 5!!

...................GLAD ITS YOU....was wondering....

Hello Joshua :tazz:

Your system is extremely infected... I strongly advice following my recommendations to keep it clean when we're done.

Download FixO.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click FixO.exe to install the program.
  • After it's installed, open the FixO folder and double-click FixO.bat.
  • When it's done running a notepad will appear with a log, please copy the contents of the notepad and paste it into your next reply.

hi..well that's sad to hear :tazz: ...actually, system appeared to running quite well for several months...i'll try to do what you will suggest, however i can't update to the new SP for MS...have tried, with a MS senior programmer here with me, will have to remove all data and wipe out harddrive, re-install OS...apparently, this SPECIFIC windows xp pro was a beta version and not supposed to be sold...my friend recognized the registration label as a temporary/in-house version...anyway, i will need to reinstall at some point, but again...all has been quite good since May...

...here's the log, and I'm all ears!!!THANK YOU!!!!!!You and your whole team are wonderful ....

Hi, requested log in previouse post.

Different question: With some of the trash i see in temporary internet files on my harddrive, it seems a complete wipe out and reinstallation might be appropriate at some time soon...some of the 'bleep' i see is Definitely not wanted and offensive to me...plus, there's a TON of 'how to buy viagra' stuff...Anyway, the question...Is there a way to truly CLEAN the harddrive without sitting it on a superconducting magnet and reinstalling Windows?

Hello Joshua! :tazz:

I will be back as soon as possible to tonight with your fix and answers to your questions.

I can definitely help clean it but in order to keep it clean you must follow my recommendations when we're done otherwise this is a complete waste of time because your system is too vulnerable without service pack 2.

Hi, Trust me...I don't mean to sound rude...but i won't be installing SP2...IMPOSSIBLE under current configuration of this version of XP...it wouldn't work...have that from good source at MS...this may sound silly, but i do live right near MS and one of my colleagues is a SENIOR developer there and he has said DON'T TRY IT...will totally stop me cold...he demonstrated (while i paid full price for this XP, it apparently was from a less than reputable source...i guess it was a 'store' version that had problems, early development version, and that it was tinkered with by an employee at the 'store' and then, i happened along, hired him to put together a system for me...thought it was from the 'store', actually was his personal work...hey, he was a manager there, thought it was ligit...full price to me...anyway, it was not a full version...probably also why i've had some other problems...)

What has been suggested is that i remove all my files, wipe the harddrive, install an uptodate version of XP pro with SP2...THAT I WILL DO...but can't do that right now...should have done it months ago...just too busy...and have the luxury of multiple other systems here.

BESIDES...it is NOT a waste of time!!! YOU HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY HELPFUL!!!WONDERFUL JOB...you got me up and running before with only 599 hrs of work, and i've been flying ever since...until this...and you know what, I shut off the AVGfree virus protect program for a day...was slowing me down!! :tazz: ...and i thought i'd just shut it off for a moment ;) ...and this got me while i wasn't looking :) thought i was being cool!!!

I understand you can't get service pack 2 which is why I'm stressing the fact that you must follow my recommendations when we're done since you CAN'T. Just tell me you'll follow the prevention measures and I'll be happy :tazz:

Anyway, I will be back in a flash with your fix ;)

You have got 3 anti-virus programs on your system. This does not protect it better. In fact, it makes it more vulnerable and slows it down A LOT! You need to get rid of 2 of them.

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ControlPanel] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exe internat.dll,LoadKeyboardProfile
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iexplore.exe] C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Explorer] C:\WINDOWS\System32\shellexp.exe en
O4 - Global Startup: strings.exe

Close HiJackThis.

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, if it does go ahead and reboot.

Delete the following URL:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\FAVORITES\Forbidden Conversations.url

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hst32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\intronsad.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\newdial1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\thun.dll
C:\WINDOWS\ms2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\tool2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\CP8Z0JCN\LBAss012345678[1].txt
C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\KJ3F2GLP\210[1].exe
C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TS8JLH0H\210[1].exe
C:\ms32.tmp
C:\Program Files\AVPersonal\INFECTED\INDEX[1].HTM.VIR

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots:

Copy everything in the code box below (starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" then click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All files". Save it as fixme.reg on your desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{03B1C4D9-BC71-8916-38AD-9DEA5D213614}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\REGISTRATION\DELTA]
Double-click fixe.reg and when asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES.

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Then we will kill Norton :tazz: ;)

I know how to do it manually... :)

So you need to decide if you would like to keep AVG or AVPersonal. One of them needs to go :(
