Inactive Icons HELP

When I right - click my active icons toolbar, my properties, and set it to hide inactive icons, the arrow doesn't show up in the bar. Its funny because in my wifes account it still appears.

I don't know if this is a big problem, and the only thing I have recently done to change the comp is erase and uninstall any factory installed prgs I didn't want. eg. I have a compaq presario so I got rid of stuff like "Hot Deals", and trial runs of prgs I will never use like adobe photoshop.

And speaking of my wifes account, since she is not very computer literate and only checks her email, msgr, and downloads the odd tune I was setting her to limited access and then she couldn't access her msn msgr, but yahoo worked, and norton wasnt autoprotecting properly. It seems only if I leave her on admin she has no problems, which is fine but the reason I changed it was so she wasnt being asked for updates, etc that she wouldnt know to say yes or no to.

Any answers?

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

I have encountered a couple of new things:

My wife uses msn msgr as do I, but she auto logs in. When she tries to check her hotmail or her yahoo mail the pages wont respond or open in i.e. she can only get to hotmails sign in page and then when she signs in it gets into some passport loop. And yahoo page wont do anything, cant click one link. By the way : Is there any probs with running both those messengers at the same time? We both do.

One more question: When I run spy bot, blaster or ad aware when I run it from my owner acct do they check the whole comp, i mean her stuff too?

You should only have one administrator on a system. If you both have administrative privileges, then you'll need to clean each account separately.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Hi Again.

Here is the new log. I tried putting my wife back to limited use, the msn doesn't work and neither does hotmail. Although Yahoo msgr and mail work. Norton auto protect was saying on her account that it wasnt on and now that i changed the account it doesnt appear so i assume it is on because it was in mine. Since I couldnt change her norton settings in her account or do it from mine (i dont know how), I was assuming it was running since i couldnt see the icon. However I deleted her account again. It would be really nice to use two accounts because XP offers it, i know it sucked in 98 but why does there have to be all these discrepancies. Any way I can get everything to work so I dont have to share the admin account, and she can use both msgrs, be protected by norton and view her hotmail????
