Apologies, I am totally new here, and didn't know where I should post this. I believe someone has somehow got access to my computer and has my passwords for yahoo messenger.... (Which I have altered several times)

Following a friend telling me they sent a message that I never received, I left myself signed in (in invisible mode). a few days later I was signed out with the message...

" You have been signed out because you have logged on, on another machine"
(or something like that)

I then changed my password, and sent myself a message from a totally different id. I logged in 2 days later, and the message wasn't there. (should have been waiting for me in offline messages.)

Obviously apart from the fact it appears someone is logging into my yahoo account, the more worrying thing is that it continued (all be it with a few days delay) AFTER I changed my password!! (So what else can they see or are they seeing)

I have now run search and destroy and adaware, but they didn't find anything other than data miners. (I ran those before finding this site, so don't have the results)

Can you help me at all please....

Many many thanks

Hi PeterShackley and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

Download HijackThis and post a logfile:
  • Download HijackThis.
  • Create a folder named "HijackThis". To create a folder:
    • Go to My Documents.
    • Right-click and select New> Folder.
    • Name the folder as "HijackThis".
  • Extract the contents of hijackthis.zip into the folder you've just created.
  • Open HijackThis.exe
  • Click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
  • After the scan is complete a Notepad window will popup.
  • In the Notepad window, go to Edit> Select all and then Edit> Copy.
  • Paste the log into your next reply.
Do NOT fix anything until we check your log. You can cause serious damage to your operating system if you fix a valid entry.

hi Peter,

You have a couple trojans on your system, and this may very well be the way they got your password. Lets clean you up, then we can change your password.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {36DCA7C6-B3EA-41FE-842C-22A8713ED6EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [autoclk] autoclk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [CMD] cmd32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [winshost.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winshost.exe
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://imgfarm.com/i...etup1.0.0.8.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150...ip/RdxIE601.cab

7. click the Fix Checked box

8. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winshost.exe
Use Start>search for the following files:
Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.
autoclk.exe
cmd32.exe

9. Run the program CleanUp!

10. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

11. Please post the Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

I've done this and

8. Could not find autoclk.exe or cmd32.exe
9. Clean up deleted approximately 6000 files / several hundred mega bytes.
10. Active scan found 13 infections, stated 4 fixed, but also said at the top all problems resolved.
11. Tried to get results of scan - could not connect to internet.
12. Tried to connect via laptop (with both wireless connection and cable connection to router) also can't connect - hence a friend is writing this.
FYI the laptop and desktop are/were on a network.
Please, please, please can you help.

Good morning Peter,

There is absoultely no reason why your connection should not be working unless your ISP is down. We did nothing to make you connection go down on your computer, nevermind ur network. Post me a fresh HiJackthis, so I can verify that you don't have any O10's in there (which deal with connection issues)

Thanks,

:tazz:

The connection seems to be up again. Still couldn't find the two files, now have 10 uncured infections..... a vast improvement I think. Attached below.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\MAGNET]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BLUE HAVEN MEDIA]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\ACTIVEX COMPATIBILITY\{53F066F0-A4C0-4F46-83EB-2DFD03F938CF}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{147A976F-EEE1-4377-8EA7-4716E4CDD239}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{66FC8717-EFA7-4546-8C4A-E224F3A80C76}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{CE9B37EC-D243-47A2-83DB-3A8350175193}]

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\GatorPatch.log
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\P2P Networking v124.cpl
C:\Program Files\MyTotalSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MTSSRCAS.DLL
F:\OLD\Applications\Norton 2003 crack.exe

Looking good..... Thank you very much.
Should I be running the clean up or the pandascan again to confirm everything is clear?
Anyway, thanks a million it seems a lot quicker, which even a philistine (can't spell it either) like me can work out is likely to be something to do with the little critters being removed, along with however many 1000's of files I didn't need.

Looks good! Those things from active scan will be cleared once your reset your restore points. Directions are below ;)

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read How I got Infected
