I need some real help. I am running Windows 98 and we got attacked by this virus. Currently the only way I can do anything is in Windows Safe Mode. If I boot up normally then I get error messages about the virus as well as error messages that explorer.exe had errors when starting and could not be started. In safe mode, my CDROM is not accessible but my floppy drive is. I have ran CWShredder, CleanIt, KILLbox, and the schmitt fraud dos programs that are mentioned in this forum. I also ran some registry fixes that are mentioned in this forum. The virus screen no longer appears but I still get the error that explorer.exe or directCD.exe could not start and then I freeze up when booting up in normal mode. Safe mode boot allows me to do things but my CD ROM is not accessible.

I am at my ropes end. I have so many pictures that have not been backed up that I desperately need to get off. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. :tazz:

Here is my HijackThis log that I ran in safe mode:

This problem has been temporarily resolved. I used msconfig to shut down any internet programs that were starting up and then I was able to boot in normal mode. I was then able to use my CDROM to install the latest Anti virus software to run a scan. AVG found 15 viruses on my computer and cleaned them. I need to run another Hijack This scan to verify that I am virus free.

I had multiple viruses on my computer, smitfraud.c being one of them.

I have followed many of the instructions in the posts in this forum to remove the virsus( atleast I think ). My computer is running a lot better. I am concerned that I may have not gotten rid of all the viruses and they will come back when I re-connect to the internet.

Could one of you experts look at my hijackthis log and see if everything looks OK?

Thanks a million!
