I transfered documents from my PC to my laptop before attempting to re-install windows, the file was over 4GB and its all very important stuff, wedding photo's etc, i went to open the zipped file on my laptop but got this message,

just want to know if i will ever be able to open the file again and if so...how
the file still has all the contents as it says its over 4gb in size

is the file an actual .rar file? or is it a .zip

If it is a .zip file then try using WinZip or the built in ZIp compression utility in windows to unzip it.

Try winzip as kid mentioned. You can get it here: http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm

If that doesn't work, I am not sure if there are utilities which help you recover corrupted zip files. It's possible you could be sol, but I'd wait for one of the trusted techs to swing by.

ok, its just a windows zipped file i d/l'd winRAR to see if that could open it
