really a blue screen of death

hi my mom's hp has the true blue screen of death. no other messages, no errors, just a blue screen that says HP Hewlet Packerd, no keys work, no mouse, no F keys, windows doesn't startup, just a blue screen. kinda scary, was working ok for a few years now and on Monday, just HP blue. i tried to get the restore cd to start up but nothing. any ideas? walt

How far into the boot are you able to get?

What I mean is this... Are you able to see the bios information... black screen with computer information... prior to the blue screen?

Can you boot to Safe mode by hitting the F8 key prior to your blue screen? You must hit the F8 key before the time you would have seen the Windows splash screen.
