Hello,
Can not get rid of this hijacker. Some words (their parts) on websites are now highlighted and are linked to begin2search website or other sites. Some pop-ups come occasionally, too. Notebook slowed down.

Scanned with spybot, ad-aware and kaspersky that return 0 viruses logs. But the problem still persists

here is the log:

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Apply the update, reboot, and go here to this link and apply all critical windows updates except service pack 2.
http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us
Spyware and viruses interfere with the installation of service pack 2 and you will have another world of problems if this is installled before we remove the spyware.
Reboot and post new log.

hi,
honestly, i do not understand what is happening, but i did install all that the Windows website has suggested to me. I also reboot afterwards. Pls find below the Installation History list:

You can view a list of installations and related actions that you’ve performed. You can also see more detailed information about updates for which an installation attempt failed.
In the event that you want to uninstall software you’ve downloaded and installed, or see a full listing of your currently installed updates, you can do so by using Add or Remove Programs, in Control Panel.

Try going here and downloading the service pack. Then you can double click it from your desktop and it will install. Then go back to the windows updates site and install the updates again, make sure you do not install service pack 2 yet. We need to remove the malware first. Reboot and post new log.

it took me some time to back up the system and install SP 1. (XP is not native on my laptop). the Windows update page suggests to install only SP2 now. i see Windows SP 1a in 'add or remove software' window.
and i hope it is finally fine.
thanks for your help once more.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.begin2sea...sidesearch.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.begin2sea...sidesearch.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.begin2sea...sidesearch.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.begin2sea...sidesearch.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: ohb - {CB5B2BC6-F957-4D8A-BE67-83F3EC58BA01} - C:\WINNT\System32\dsktrf.dll

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?.
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

c:\winnt\system32\service.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\dsktrf.dll

Reboot normally and go to these links:

Free online virus scan: <<need to use IE
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here: <<download the trial version of "The Cleaner"
http://www.moosoft.com/

Run these, reboot and post new log.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D
