Hello!
I am using windows XP but do not have a windows CD i can use to repair.

As i was uninstalling programs my display switched to 4 bit and will not change back. I also have no sound and am unable to burn cds in my usual burning program.

I am in the middle of a move and do not want to lose all my files so any advice is very much appreciated.

thanks x 1000000

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

What were the programs you were uninstalling??

If you know the make and model of your system, you should be able to get your video card and soundcard drivers from the manufacturers website and install them..

Where is your XP cd just in case you do need to do a repair or SFC /scannow??

hi murray

i know this will sound terrible but i am not sure what i uninstalled.
the reason i didn't check was i am quite familiar with the list of programs that appears in the install/un install function and i didn't recognize 2 programs, so i uninstalled them immediately.

i have a emachines restore CD that wipes everything, but i don't think a windows XP CD came with the computer. i am trying to track one down.

thanks so much

An XP cd won't help as you won't have the necessary key code for install or activation..

Need to know what the video card is.. Do you have the manual that came with the system?? That should tell us what it is!!
