Hey, I'm new here, and it's only because Ive been hit with a really horrible mouse problem recently that I'm even on these forums.

My problem is that everytime I try to move my mouse cursor to the left now, it always goes to the right, no matter what. It's not reverse either; if I go to the right, it still goes to the right.

When this problem first popped up (yesterday), it didn't seem so bad. The mouse would only bounce around so much due to my attempts to struggle with it, where eventually the mouse would return to normal. Now it's absolutely hopeless, and most of my browsing online and navigating on my computer right now has been restricted to the use of my keyboard.

I thought about it for a second and realized that it couldn't have been a hacking of my computer because it still happens when I'm not online (yes, if this sounds ignorant, shoot me, I'm not really tech savvy). Maybe it's a really hard-to-get-to Virus? I ran Mcafee Virus Scan but that didn't really do anything (McAfee's just "okay" but not good, I presume).

I know that it's not the perhiperal and it's definitely not the battery, so what now?

Welcome to GTG.

My first guess was that it might be a virus also :tazz:

So you checked the mouse already and nothing is wrong with it? Is this a optical mouse or regular mouse with the ball? If it's the regular one, make sure you clean the ball and the insides where there are 3 small wheels. Probably best to use a tweezer to do this if you have one.

Otherwise, if the above didn't work or doesn't apply, do this:

Please read the first link in my signature and follow the steps outlined there. When you are ready, post the HijackThis log here.

Yep, it's a ball mouse. And I tried cleaning it out, funny thing was that it was already clean when I looked inside XP

In any case, here's the log:

OK, this is not good. You have a bunch of spyware in there. I will ask a Moderator who will move this over to the Malware Forums for us :tazz:

Let's fix this up right now:

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful')
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ to update manually.

Download CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp and install it, but do not run it yet.

Please download Nailfix Utility at http://www.noidea.us...050711214630636 Save it to your desktop. Do NOT run it yet.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknigh.../spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Click on any filename that begins with newdotnet....dll on the left window and click on the arrow pointing to the right. If you see any other files that begin with newdotnet..dll, move those over also. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click 'Next' in the setup, then make sure 'Run Nailfix' is checked and click 'Finish'.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Uninstall New.Net, Viewpoint and Ebates from the Add/Remove panel if they are listed.

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\enhtb.dl
C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\evrdo.dll
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\WINDOWS\enhupdt.exe

Now run CCleaner.

1. Uncheck 'Cookies' under 'Internet Explorer'.
2. If running Firefox: click on the 'Applications' tab and uncheck 'Cookies' under 'Firefox'.
3. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.

Finally, restart your computer and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the report log from the Ewido scan.

I did everything up to the part where I have to run Nailfix Utility.

I downloaded it from the url you provided, but when I tried to run it in safe mode, I got this error message.

"The Setup Files are Corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program"

Then, I tried to run it outside of safe mode. Same thing

So I try to re download it from the same url, but the same thing happens again.

I'm... stuck

I'm not exactly sure why this is happening. But try downloading it here or here and see if those work.

I'm not sure what's wrong with nailfix then. But as far as the log goes, I don't see any signs of it anymore :tazz: Maybe we don't need to use it now.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Oops, hehe, when I said the problem still persists, I mean that the mouse was still on the fritz. I went to the url you gave me and I was able to download nailfix just fine.

Anyway, about that mouse problem? Even after I ran CleanUp

It's still the same. It's not getting any worse, but it really hasn't gotten any better either...

What now? :tazz:

:tazz: Gotcha!

OK, with that mouse....we need to feed it to a cat ;)

Have you tried using another spare mouse if you have one to see if it causes problems also? If another mouse doesn't have problems, then it's this mouse itself that's either dirty or defective/broken (time to get a new one).
